I am going to be hitting some streams in NE IA this upcoming weekend. Typically this time of year I like to use minnows, and I will have some along, but I want to try some lures as well. What recommendations do you have for me? Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine went up last weekend and did well with a size 0 mepps all silver, he caught a few nice browns. He said he also caught a few leftover stocked bows drifting an ice jig with waxworm in the pools. I think he said #8 gill pill under a bobber (I’d use one of the pegged style ice bobbers if it was me).

    Good luck!

try a size 6 husky jerk for trout, they catch a lot of fish and won’t twist your line like a spinner will. count downs work great as well.

I do mostly fly fishing for trout. One of the things I use this time of year is a wooly bugger. Swimming, Twitching/Lifting or just dead drifting on the bottom. I would think a spinning equivalent could be hair jigs or plastics (generally dark colors – black, brown or dark olive). Also, carry some neutral bouyant stick baits (X-Raps, Husky Jerks, etc). Have had luck just holding or letting hang in the current. May be a good bet if water is high or marginally turbid.
