I wonder what trout would do with one of these?

This cicada was a guest on my deck last night.

It must be a peak cycle for them. I’ve seen nymph shells all over.

We have a small maple that I think is dwarfed because it’s leaves are so small. Every time I sit under the tree it seems like one crawls down the trunk above the first row of branches. It makes me wonder if they are attracted to any movement.

I think I heard one in the fireplace yesterday evening. It sounded like he was at the bottom, but maybe he was at the top and it was reverberating, making it louder.

I’ve posted 2 videos already on Facebook. I’ll be watching those again come January.

I bet catfish at night and bass during the day would love them.

Here’s a neat animated gif of one molting into an adult. I’d like to witness this for myself one day.

Funny how many years it took me to realize that the grass and bushes don’t really come alive with the sounds of crickets, katydids and other insects until late summer, early fall when they all have become adults.

My daughter and I saw exactly that about a week ago on the playhouse outside. Very cool. My tree is covered in those shells. Funny I brought up this idea yesterday to my coworker as using them for bait, might have to try it out on the river and see what I get.

I got to see one doing that last year. Pretty cool. I took a bunch of pictures but for the most part they were pretty fuzzy.

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I think those are called cicadias… but I would put it on a hook as well as any cricket/grasshopper I found!!!

I love the buzzing sound those things make

It seems like the hotter the weather, the more active they are
