Hooked up w/ KWP. He was going to Eau Claire to pick up a Terrova. We tried one of the western Wi trout streams for some hot dry fly action. The bugs were there. The fish were there. The catching not so much. I bet we cycled thru 15 patterns. Surface, in the film, sub surface. Nope, nope & nope. Got to a point where I stood in the middle of stream and put my nose to the water to see what I was missing. Watched a struggling mayfly smaller than what I was using drift downstream and Gulp! Re-tied and missed one and landed three. Of course we had about 15 minutes left to fish. I think trout can be more “in your face about it” but next time you’re out is your plug running true? Do you need to pinch the head of that plastic. Might make a difference.
