The larger rivers, like the Root, are high, but the small streams, like Forestville creek are in pretty good condition. The Whitewater doesn’t look too bad either.

Tuesday before the rains started, I noticed a lot of surface activity on the small streams, I didn’t see any insects, so whatever the trout are after, it is tiny.

For the most part I have been getting very good results using large spinners to get down to the bottom, in and between the rocks. The folks that I have been taking out have all had good quantities of trout using this method. The spinners that we have been using are the large Magnum Spinners (formerly named Big Bow). Earlier in the season copper was the color of choice, but lately, after the recent snow melt, it seems that Black Pearl and Glow-in- the dark Blue spinners with Silver blades are the hot ticket.

Single hooks are working the best, allowing us to get right down among the rocks with less snags and hang ups.

    Nice pictures

I like to fish rapalas for trout sometimes; I have been using treble hooks but I think I will try a bigger size (no 6 or 4) and maybe cut one of the trebles off. You are right, trebles can be too snaggy and dull so easy on the rocks.

I make my own single hooks for the Bow spinners. I also sell these hooks in packages of 6 so folks can upgrade their lures from treble to single.
