Andy Kurth called last night. He wanted to fish today. He doesn’t get a hall pass often so I went with him.

Our first choice of streams was taken by turkey hunters and decided to let them have it to themselves.

The nearest stream was 10 miles north.

The weather this morning was awful. It was snowing and raining and windy. It did NOT seem to bother the trout because they were on fire.

We fished from 8:30 until 1:30pm
I let Andy have most of the holes first and he landed 47 browns and three brookies infested with gill lice. I have never found gill lice on this stream. I also had never caught a brookie on this stream until today.

I landed 32 browns and three brookies with gill lice also. I have already filled out the report form on the brookies.

Andy had 2 doubles. He was throwing a woolly worm with a uv stone dropper.

Andy landed big brown of the day…it was 16ish.

I landed big brookie of the day… about 12ish brookie

Len, that looks like a great spot. Glad to hear you did well. Any insight as to what flies the trout are taking? I’ve gone out a bit here in SE MN but have yet to have a trout come to the fly. Of course the streams I’ve been on have not been near as clear as that one looks.

Nice area. I have seen that silhouette of Andy a few times over these past 10 yrs of fishing with him.

Work has prevented me from meeting up with him these last 2 yrs…..although I do believe we are going to take a summer drive over to his new house this yr.

water color looks great. Not what I’d expected with all the rain/snow coming down. I hope to get out this week

andy was using a uv stone as a dropper…is a creation of his. The top fly was a woolly worm…with a small split 12 inches up and both were fished under an indicator.

He did use a big cone head bugger with some purple chenille in it for a while.

That snow/rain wind you talk about has made it a challenge to the north of you. Was lucky to find clean water. Tribs running good but main water was still ok. No measurement.
