Rap look-a-like

For years I have tossed both the sinking and floating Raps in the smallest three sizes for trout and by far and away the black back with the gold belly has been my favorite color combo. A year ago I did up a plastic bait [black over chartreuse] that I fished on a plain jig and did a number on quite a few trout and a friend used another color [electric green over electric yellow] of the same plastic bait and did well using jigs on stream trout in the SEpart of this area. I’ve been playing with colors this winter and think I finally have a look-a-like to my favorite black over gold.

The bait at the bottom is as close as I can get with the camera in any light to show how the gold appears. In the hand the entire belly looks gold plated. It took a lot of tinkering to finally come up with a serious gold color in the belly plastic but I’m betting this will trip some trout triggers.

Can’t image that not getting eaten by fish anywhere. I’ll take a good hand full and try them out on area lakes for panfish as a tester any time….:)

Are you going to be making, and selling these?

End to end this guy is 1.75″. Without eyes the body is a bit more streamlined. The cover dip to seal the eyes makes the bait grow a little. Two of these, body only, side by side will smother a dime. The next time I get a pic with this bait I’ll lay a dime next to it for ya.

While this is a super good crappie bait sunfish of any size do not have a problem chewing one down. The plastic is a very soft formula, but still tough. I was punching trout with the same bait, different colors late last winter and right after ice out. My friend winter fishes the streams often and did super good on the green/yellow last winter when nothing else was working.

I wanted to see if I could get the colors close to the old rap colors of gold / black and this one is awful close.

I’ve been fighting a problem mold lately and finally got a plate done to do laminates and am hoping it is a cure-all. I heated up the gold plastic again and shot the half-baits using it then used the orange that was used as the throat patch in the first Rap-look-a-like as the top or back color and got this.

This is another great trout color in the Raps. The gold as I was attempting to describe it before really jumps out at you here with the orange above it and in a subdued natural light. Everything color-wise is edentical to the colors used in the black backed model, just a difference of light and light angle.

I can see a trout hanging on this one without even being near water. lol

The top ones are my favorite Tom but the bottom ones might be ok for smallies, northerns etc.. Any chance you could come up with a paddle tail for the top ones, I think thier nice as they are and I think they would be killer with a paddle tail.
