First Big Brown Of 2013

    This was big fish of the outing. She was fat from nose to tail and fought like crazy. I guess her at 23 inches. Excellent way to break in 2013.

    Landed 16 other browns. Next biggest was about 15 inches.

    All trout were in slow/deep water near springs. Lost one that went over 25 inches…Was male…almost to net.

    All were caught on a size 9 gold panther martin.

    Water temp was 36 degrees. Clear water…partly cloudy.

    Richland County.

    Nice fish…Our opening weekend was one of he better ones in recent years. Fished a stream in Western Wisconsin that has high trout numbers but not big size. Caught lots of fish but only up to 14″.

    By the way, I saw your youtube videos and picked up a few things about fishing for big trout. Three things I remember you pointed out: 1) Only fish a hole with a few well placed casts and move on. 2) When you hook up with weeds, slowly reel you lure out instead of cranking it out and spooking the fish. 3) Fish upstream (or at least cast upstream).

    Nice pic Len! i went trout fishing for the first time last spring and boy was that fun!They sure put up a good fight for their size!
