So I’m relatively new to the world of trout fishing, don’t get me wrong I’m not giving up my walleye but with a trout stream 2 minutes from my house its a little closer than redwing, I’m just wondering what everyone looks for when targeting trout and what sort of lures/flies would be a good place to start. Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

i have not fished trout in a few years but i used to work a stream/river with a large stick bait or jointed stick bait 6″ in length. targeting large trout then i would usually use a crawler on a plain ol hook on my way back to the truck looking for eater fish. i caught many many trout over 20″ up to 28″ and countless eaters here in southern mn using this method. i have quit trout fishing due to every other mile of trout stream in the state of mn having different rules, its very sad what has become of our trout fishing here in southern mn. hope you have luck! make sure to check stream rules.

Panther martins are a good choice for a lure.
Any small inline spinners will work though.
I don’t have much experience with flies so cant comment on what works well with them.

I always look for a deeper hole after rapids, bends, or under brush. And you can’t go wrong casting a black no.2 Rooster tail. It also helps to dress to blend in with your surroundings and keeping a low profile. Good luck.

Panther Martin, black w/ gold blade. They are heavy so they cast with ease and have a lot of resistance so they are easy to pull down stream.

Catching trout on spinners is easy, much easier than on a fly.

Cover all the obvious stream areas, banks, current breaks, eddies, riffles, runs, pools.

If no takers, I go heavy cover mode and employ bass flipping type techniques or go with a short line and stick the rod into the nastiest cover (i.e. laydowns)you can find. Just hold the lure in front for a few seconds, you’d be surprised what you find.

If the stream is clear and you fished an area with no takers, you can stomp on the ground to see where the trout were when they blow out of their area.

if your looking for big fish! make your first cast to each hole in the most likely spot for a large fish to ambush! if your looking for numbers start by working the bottom of the hole with several cast working upstream twards the head of the ripples! good luck!

throw a crawler laced up on a hook with some mono up above the pools and let it float down into the pool. They can’t resist it. If your not getting bites add a very small split shot. You can also work floating raps on the surface of the pools. If you’re going to use spinners do yourself a favor and buy panther martins. They spin at the slowest speed and trout love them. Black with a gold spinner was always my best color.
