Assuming a lumber yard. Call and talk to someone in accounting and ask if you can make this sale as originating in WI. I’m not sure on the exact terminology. From what I understood from my accountant, the sales tax is based on the origin of the sale. Its gray area

I once worked at a Menards in North Dakota. Tons of Canadians would come down and buy materials to build their houses. If I remember right they had to ship it over the border themselves to save anything.

The law for IA, WI, and IL says tax is paid to the state where title or ownership of the product is transfered. That would be the location it is delivered or shipped to.If the store has a WI sales tax permit and you are billed or pay after delivery to WI you should be charged WI tax. If you go to the MN store and prepay there you probably will be charged MN tax. If the store regularly delivers to WI and does business there they would have established nexis and would be required to have a WI sls. tax permit.
