    Terrible tragedy. bawling

“Life changed today,” the post reads. “We met with the care team this morning. Alan’s brain damage was way worse than any of us thought. Most of his brain was damaged. There was never a day we thought we would have to make a decision like this. Little Alan got his angel wings today.”

The family has a Go Fund Me page set up to pay the medical bills.

I cannot even fathom what that family is going through! Same age as my youngest. Gone way to early young man!

I don’t post a lot on here but I felt like I needed to in this case.

We all need to pay more attention and be more careful for our little buddies out there. I have children his age and I cried this morning when I read about this in the newspaper. So sorry for him and his family. Let’s all make this death mean something and pass on the message to those we can that safety comes first, especially with kids, and drinking and driving ANYTHING is totally unacceptable on all levels.

We all need to pay more attention and be more careful for our little buddies out there.

A dad and son were out setting up a portable and were both struck by a drunk a-hole (.30) who must have been going at a good clip in order to break his own bones, drag a child across the ice and incur life threatening injuries, and injure his dad. This guy had “three previous alcohol-related license revocations, including one related to a crash he was involved in on November 2, 2017.”

How could they have been more careful?

I can’t understand how it is that we can regulate every aspect of life in this state, but we cannot have a law that gets chronic DWI offenders put in jail. How many times do we have to do it? See a person with 3, 4, 8, 12 DWI convictions mow down somebody and kill them because somehow, some way they are NOT behind bars.

And of course, there’s about 0.000% chance that the douchebag that killed that poor little boy had any insurance. So the poor family is going bury their son and then have hospital bills mixed in with the sympathy cards in their mailbox. How much more salt can we rub in their wounds?

I think we’d be amazed at how fast DWI rates declined as soon as the 3rd DWI meant a mandatory 5 years in jail, no negotiation, no plea bargains. But that would be cruel here in LiberlLand.

2nd offense works for me. Once is a mistake, 2nd you either have a problem or don’t care.

I read somewhere that in the country of Turkey, a DWI conviction means a mandatory one year prison sentence…..with your wife! That would be a long year. Heck of a deterrent.

Edit: just noticed this was up above already…hopefully posting it twice helps!

Many of the things in my head have been mentioned above so I won’t repeat them. This hit me emotionally as I have a young boy as well. For those that are interested and/or able to help financially support the family, here is a link to the GoFundMe page. No parent should have to bury a child let alone pay for their funeral.

Can’t even put it into words.

Make more severe penalties and people will change their behavior.
Cannot imagine what the little guys family is going through.

As it stands people can just pay money, jump through hoops, or just drive without a license – often on the down low. Put in some laws with teeth that are public, embarrassing, and costly, without being life destroying, and it may begin a cultural shift that would eventually change a significant portion of people’s behavior. Couple this with treatment options for addicts. 2nd offense, make it ugly.

I think we’ll find that the punishment for breaking most of our laws is laughable…except that is, until you mess with the govt., then they want a pound of flesh. How are there so many people in jail for tax fraud, but child molesters, etc. walk free. Something wrong here?

I’m wondering what drunk driving victims’ families would say to that?

Not trying to argue but I think they could put a breathalyzer on recreational vehicles also a higher police presence
