Has anyone ever ran the Mississippi River north from Grand Rapids to Winnie? It’s about 46 miles. I’m thinking that would be an enjoyable family weekend trip on the pontoon. Camp somewhere along the way and then meander back home at some point.

That’s a lot of miles for one weekend. Might be good to run it without the family and with more time first.

I have not boated that stretch but I would guess that in low water times it would be difficult to do like the rest of the upper Mississippi. High water I would think you should be able to but then you open up another set of problems with high water.

Here is a good link for maps and gauges.

I’m not sure you’d get all that far with a pontoon. Looks pretty narrow and shallow from the confluence with the Leech Lake River (south of Ball Club) on up.

I’ve fished most of it over the years. Just never ran the full stretch in one shot. You are right though, from Hwy 2 north near ball club is the concern.

    Interesting. How’s the fishing?

Honestly, it’s fun and can be productive.
