Hey everyone, I am looking to upgrade electronics this year and have decided to go with a 93sv. I would also would like to run a 52dv in the bow. Without a bow trolling motor im wondering if and/or how i can run both units off the one transducer. If i would be able able to nmea network them together or would have to go a different route. Would appreciate any input. Thanks

    Hey Levi,
The NMEA on those units is able to share waypoints, trails, etc. but not sonar.
Garmin does have some “splitters” but not sure off the top of my head if there is one for 2 units to 1 ducer.
Danny Thompson may chime in on that and I will try and do a little digging myself.
A question I have for you is, are you buying the new “CHIRP” units or are you going with last years models?
I ask because they use different transducers, plugs, etc.

Thanks for the info Eric. I was planning on buying the chirp units but if for some odd reason buying last years model would let me be able to share sonar between the two then maybe I would go that route.

was doing some thinking, would ethernet allow the sonar to be shared? Still figuring this all out unless nmea 2000 is a form of ethernet? I saw a post about ethernet letting two humminbirds share sonar but don’t know if that would work in this situation. I also sent an email directly to Garmin so will see what they have to say.

Levi, I had a chance to do some digging and found a press release that leads me to believe that some of the Echomap units can indeed share sonar but I can’t find anything definitive that says it is possible for all Echomap units.

    http://ph.garmin.com/news/pressroom/news20140707/

This presser is from 2014 so other units might have the functionality as well.

Internal sonar sharing is another valuable feature that is available. With this capability, chartplotters can share sonar internally to any other devices within the same network. Non‑sonar devices can also display compatible sonar shared across the network1. Compatible units include the GPSMAP 8000 Glass Helm series, new GPSMAP xs and non-xs series and the echoMAP 70.

Here’s the link to the 70. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/echomap-70s/prod119872.html. sharing of sonar between networked units is stated under the Overview tab.

When you hear back from Garmin please post their response. Inquiring minds wanna’ know!

    Official reply from garmin:
“Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I’m happy to assist you with this today. Each unit would need their own transducer, NMEA 2000 wouldn’t transfer the necessary data needed for them both to use one transducer, you would need a GPSMAP series device to do that. Please let us know if we can further assist.”

So that sucks but i was expecting this after reading the forum james posted and doing a little more digging myself. The 93sv just arrived today so i’ll have that set up anyways and ponder my options. Thanks everyone for chiming in.
