Run-n-Gun sensitive ice line for panfish and walleye

I’m an avid sufix 832 user in the summer and love how connected to the environment I am with its sensitivity. For ice fishing I’ve been using berkley vanish fluorocarbon 2lb for panfish and 4lb for walleye and larger perch. I fish 90% of the time in the elements without a shelter so line freeze up is a major issue. What are the recommendations for line that won’t freeze up (-20°F to 32°F) and is more sensitive than the current fluorocarbon i’m using so I can get back to the sensation I experience with 832 in the summer?

Line will always freeze up.. I use P-Line Floroclear 3lb for panfish, 4lb for perch/wally (sometimes a 6lb leader of floroclear with tiny swivel depending on what im using). From what ive found it has the lowest memory, lowest stretch, but ice will always be an issue, just get rods with larger line guides (i like some of the beaver dam rods because of the huge line guides and their cheap) then you dont have to clear it quite as often ;)

    Wow, tough expectations there.

Why the need for such sensitivity? Not like your dragging over log jams, feeling your way down a wing dam or 30 yds of line out feeling for weeds?

Think your line is about as good as it gets. There will be debate on which flouro or flouro mix people like but only so much you can do. As mentioned above good sized eyelets help and don’t forget to lube em up with some Vaseline, it helps.

In those cold of temps maybe a colored line will help for bite detection. You’re gonna have gloves on so feeling will be tough, rely on your tip and line to aid you. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping there was a new mouse trap of a line that I hadn’t discovered yet. Tungsten jig with a fireline/braid feel for panfish just feels great, darn ice. I’ll go back to staring at my fluorocarbon line.

i tried a few different braided lines last season, biggest waste of time in my life, they freeze up worse than floro.. plus they aren’t as invisible so you catch less fish, they dont sink as fast, harder to cut/clip line when tying new jigs etc..

unless you have a heated stationary or plan to spend all your time inside some type of heated shack, braided is not the way to go. the stretch on the best floro lines out there is so little that its not worth trying to go braided in my opinion.

Another vote for P-Line Floroclear, best line out there IMO.
