Rubber boot fix

I’ll be running to scheels Saturday. Talking to customer service today they say that they get to make the judgment call on them. I will have to wash them up and make them shiny again. And opt for another brand boot. Might try the alpha burlys but they have a very similar material, can’t see why they won’t crack as well, maybe not as fast but every rubber boot does. I bought some boggs for the kid last week and the rubber seems very heavy duty and he said they are really warm. Might try them. I will no longer recommend these mucks

Coletrain27Posts: 4789December 22, 2022 at 4:26 pm #2168764I thought I saw some rubber boots at the red wing store the other day. They might have something more durable if your using them for work

Yeah on these cold ass days I wear them for work. But damn at 200 bucks I should be able to wear a outdoor working boot to work lol.

JensenPosts: 461December 22, 2022 at 7:01 pm #2168801My alphaburlys did the same crack after almost a year and were covered under warranty. I have cheaper itascas the crack at the same spot after awhile and the goop only lasts so long if u do any amount of walking in weeds, cattails debris etc.
December 22, 2022 at 8:35 pm #2168818I deal with the same thing with the woody max boot. I am on my 3rd pair and get about 2-3 years out of each pair. Every pair has pulled apart at that same spot. The shoe goo gives me a extra year but I feel your pain with that deal. Curious what they tell you if they do look at them.
I will keep buying them though. I look at them like a bic lighter. You only get so many flicks. I use my woody max about 50-70 days a year so ok with issues after a while. However if that happened to your boot in the first year they should address it and help ya. They should.
If you fix them just make sure to clean the surface and pull that split open to make sure everything is clean and dry before applying any glue. Rubbing alcohol drys fast. I even pull the split a little bigger to give me fresh material to glue onto. It seems to work for a while.
This is my pair after a few months of shoe goo. I will most likely have to apply more this winter if it pulls apart. Cleaning and preparing the glue point helps that from happening.

I’m a big fan of Xtratuf. I probably own 6 different pairs of them. When it’s really cold and I need dry feet, I break out my bunny boots. When it’s icy, and wet, I use my Korkers with studs. They’re also waterproof. Dang, I probably own more footwear than my wife…
27eyeguyPosts: 308December 22, 2022 at 9:56 pm #2168826I’m on my second pair of Reed Force boots, work good for me. Might try the Reed Glacier or Xtratuf next time.
December 23, 2022 at 7:15 am #2168851I’m going to look at the xtratough boots. The alpha burlys are thinner in the flex points then the mucks I have.
December 24, 2022 at 10:45 am #2169133This was my 5th summer with these. Guide gear from Sportmans Guide.
800 grams so not real heavy weight but perfect for launching the boat. Never leaked at any seam but the rubber fabric over the top and toe area got thin. I sprayed this stuff on it ( 3 coats) and was dry the last month before I put them away. When they get wet inside from stepping in too deep I put them on a boot dryer and suspect that weakens the rubber fabric. If they weren’t China made I’d buy another pair in a heartbeat.Attachments:
December 24, 2022 at 11:06 am #2169140I used 3m 5200 on them. They are still curing so we will see. First thing I’ll do is submerge them in the tub to see if it worked. If not I’ll be buying new boots
steelslinger71Posts: 167December 24, 2022 at 1:06 pm #2169159Be sure to let us know how your boot turns out Bearcat. I have a split in the same flex spot but at least the boots are probably five years old.
Bassn DanPosts: 977December 24, 2022 at 4:35 pm #2169194Mucks are notorious for cracking. Even if you can fix then temporarily they will fail again and not worth risking your feet. Get Muck to replace them or buy another brand of new boots.

I won’t be replacing these with more mucks. I’ll be checking out the Xtra tuffs
