The Gophers are favored by 17 points at home tomorrow against the Nevada Wolf Pack. Should they lose this game, it will all but sink their chances at a bowl game. The big ten schedule portion of the season begins next week against Iowa, followed by Michigan, USC, and UCLA.

Iowa blew a 13-0 halftime lead at home last Saturday against their in-state rival Iowa State, and lost 20-19 with under a minute left in regulation.

Meh, USC is the only one of those teams to handle their business thus far. Gophers should, and better, win vs Nevada but they should have a punchers chance, at least, of pulling out a W off against those teams as well.

The opening line favors the visiting Hawkeyes by 2.5 points on Saturday evening against the Gophers. Iowa is 2-1, just like Minnesota. They began the season nationally ranked but lost at home to in-state rival Iowa State in week 2.

Floyd of Rosedale is on the line here.

Anyone understand why a rivalry game is happening so early in the season?

Because of scheduling conflicts as they slowly transition to the Big 96er Conference. The more meaningless (in terms of conference supremacy) rivalries are sacrificed to make the schedule work, so the league gets all the meat and gristle $$$ too.

Losing 31-14 to a rival who throws for 62 yards passing in the year 2024 is the ultimate kick in the teeth. Ouch.

Iowa made some adjustments at the half and Minnesota did not. Outscored 24-0 in the second half. Woof

I thought that the coaching by Fleck and his staff was very poor in the second half after looking really good in the first half.
While Iowa made half time adjustments, Minnesota didn’t respond.

Yeah that second half was bad. Iowa is a good team though but that was rather embarrassing.

Michigan is favored over the Gophers by 10 points on Saturday in Ann Arbor. Another rivalry trophy is on the line here, the Little Brown Jug.

The Wolverines are the current reigning Big Ten and National Champions, but they have lost a lot of fire power from last season. They are 3-1 on the season, with their loss coming to top ranked Texas. Last week they beat #13 ranked USC.

Michigan has won 10 of the last 11 games in this series dating back to 2006. The lone Gopher win was in September 2014.

I heard on KFAN today that the line moved from Michigan -10.5 to -8.5. Someone must know something about an injury but if I was in a state with legal sports betting I would be putting money on Michigan to cover 8.5 points against the Gophers.

It’s funny this thread has disappeared… Vikes doing good I guess we forget about who’s doing bad. Going to be a rough year for the badgers with the QB out.

IMO the transfer portal and NIL has ruined college football. You now have the classic rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Teams like Minn, WI, Iowa for example it will be an uphill battle to ever get to the National Championship playoffs. Not enough NIL money available for those teams to compete when their 3 star recruits become impact players only to leave the team that developed them for a NIL payday with a top team like Alabama. Can’t fault the player though, since who doesn’t want to make the most they can.

I agree, and it’s not just in football either. It’s across every sport. It’s become far too loose. They need to make players sit out a season again if they want to transfer.

It’s 21-3 at the half. Boat is sinking fast here.

At a central MN bar for lunch, and I will say there was a LOT of choice language for the ref throwing the flag for offsides on the onside kick. Should be a reviewable play. Volume was off with jukeboxes playing, so didn’t get to hear what Pierra and the TV guys had to say about it.

He wasn’t offsides. No chance. Should have been reviewed. I didn’t expect the gophers to win and they killed themselves in the first half. Second half they took care of business and almost stole it. Silver lining…

The Fox analyst post game said the offside should not have been called.
What’s the rule, any body part over the line or a foot on the ground over the line?

Offsides is not a reviewable play.

The Gophers dug themselves a 21-3 hole and Michigan sandbagged in the second half which allowed it to become a game.

Little Brown Jug will remain in Ann Arbor.

Next week’s opponent, USC, is currently leading the Badgers 24-21 in the fourth quarter.

They killed themselves in the first half but that was not offsides on the onside kick and didn’t give them a chance. The blocked punt, the strip of Jackson and that huge sack on 3rd down taken away because he facemasked the QB all led to their points.
I was very happy with the adjustments in the second half and they did that and delivered

Especially since PJ got hammered for not making second half adjustments last week.

I hate the mediocrity of the Gophers and I hate that most of my life their seasons have consisted of usually beating the teams they should and almost always losing to better teams with rarely an upset. However as the day has gone by I’m starting to see losing to the #12 team in the country by 3 on the road as a little more of a positive than I did right away.

I 100% agree Gim. With the new NIL rules in place they absolutely have to reinstate the lost season rule if they’re going to transfer. With things being so loose it’s just the wild west, and there’s no way for the middle tier schools to compete.

The USC Trojans visit on Saturday to take on the Gophers. It is a 6:30pm kick off. USC is currently the #11 ranked team in the country, has a 3-1 record, and they are favored by 9 points as the road team. Their loss came 2 weeks ago at Michigan. Last week they were down 21-10 to Wisconsin and rattled off 28 unanswered points to win the game 38-21.

This is the first time USC will face Minnesota in Big Ten conference play.
