Not played until January 3rd, which seems late – after all the big bowl games but maybe a tantalizing, creamy, mayo-based appetizer for the final rounds of the College Football Championship.

Some past MVPs of the storied contest include Matt Schaub, Nick Chubb and Dak Prescott.

The Belle is in Insurance (charlotte is an insurance hub)
She’s contacting her vendors today for tickets. And those tickets usually come with the perks. woot

I wouldn’t worry. There will be plenty of good seats available.

I might still pick one up just to see what the fuss is about.

Don’t bother. Has a more vinegary taste than other mayos sold here. I’m one and done with Duke’s!!

My brother married a gal from South Carolina and her and her family are the first people I had ever heard mention Duke’s mayo. When we’ve hosted wedding or baby showers here in MN my SIL or her family have made sure to bring Duke’s Mayo with. Definitely popular in the south.

Exactly, its like Hellman’s here. One thing I will never forget is, one time I had a headache in AIT.. and this old southern boy asked me if I wanted a goodies…? I had no idea what a goodies was, but it is a crushed up aspirin basically… in a little paper pouch. Goodies headache powder is what it was called ! Haven’t seen it since ???

The Gophers will face Virginia Tech in the Dukes Mayo Bowl tomorrow from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC at 6:30pm central time. Minnesota is favored by 7 points and is currently riding a 7 game bowl unbeaten streak.

The Hokies have 14 new starters in this game that did not play during the regular season, due to early departures and/or losses in the transfer portal.

Awaiting the winning coach is a bucket-sized dowsing of tangy Dukes mayonnaise. It has been described by previous coaches as “a death march back to the locker room dripping of tangy thick mayo.” hah

Favored by 7 but it’s been said that the Gophers have no idea what to game plan for because the majority of personnel they’ll see are new. Haven’t heard a complete list but I know Lindenberg isn’t playing, nor is their offensive tackle who could be a late first round pick. Still talk that if Brosmer plays well tomorrow and some other showcase games he could get picked up very late or as an undrafted FA.

Yeah, I thought I heard something like 20 players from Virginia Tech arent playing for various reasons. THey werent even that good of a team. Interesting. Maybe they are all transfering I guess but that is a lot if true.
I really like that Brosmer kid. If he would have ended up at a more high profile school he would definitely get drafted. I believe I heard the Gophers have NEVER had a QB drafted. Granted he was here for just one year, but it was a pretty dang good one at that.

This is part of the reason the transfer portal needs to change. Once the regular season is over, its WHAM all these players jump ship because they want a change of scenery. Then the bowl games are played a month later and half the roster isn’t even the same.

One thing I like about Fleck is he seems to get the most buy in out of his players. Many of the guys I thought would likely sit it out are playing which I think is great. No surprise Ersery or Lindenberg are opting out. Lindenberg already had some injuries this year. No sense in risking that. Ersery with a potential first round pick? Yeah, I would sit out too, cant blame him.

i read there are 6 maybe 7 gophers sitting out. one notable was the WR Jackson!!

If Jackson is out that is a pretty big hole to fill on offense. That will stink.

The transfer portal is out of control and it doesnt seem like the NCAA cares at all. For me its starting to ruin college football for me.

It is making college football a totally different sport.

However, just some fun food for thought…I’ve seen a lot of talk lately about how since the NIL/transfer portal has gotten the way it has, teams like Alabama (didn’t make the playoff) and Georgia (eliminated from the playoff) seem to be coming back to earth and not running roughshod over college football like they were. And who knows…you take a team like North Carolina (who have kind of been like the Gophers of the southeast), hire Bill Bellicheck, and get a bunch of donor money because they want to see them win with him, and they could turn it around much quicker than if they had to do it through recruiting competition alone.

Nice special teams blunder to start the game for the Gophers. Let’s see if the defense can bail them out.

BTW, I dislike the stupid Gopher logo on the side of the helmet.

Turns out EPG was the only one of us who got to watch the game without constant references to Mayo.

Reference probably but watching and hearing the disgusting things they were made to eat and the guy literally gagging on air was horrible advertising.

We have been using Duke’s mayo for some time now. It has been a SE regional favorite for a long time. Amazon fresh has carried it for years and now it is available in most grocery stores. It is a good brand of mayo, but it still is just mayonnaise. Kinda liking the avocado oil Kraft mayo more now.

Watched the first half after they came on live on ESPN. Delayed TV start on regular ESPN because two Texas teams were playing in an irrelevant bowl. The starting QB for one of the Texas teams was a freshman that had not started a game since 9th grade. He was a backup QB as a HS senior but still good enough to walk on to a low end D1 program. Never did hear who he sat behind in HS. Assume he got to play the regular season QB for this college team jumped schools in the portal.

I am not a fan of that Gopher helmet either. Looks like a middle schooler drew it on a pad of paper and the school went with it.

That kid absolutely torched the other team. Like 400 yards passing and a long td run. Not sure how many td passes but it was an entertaining game. The gophers game started on ESPN news.

I enjoyed watching the game, but the commentators almost made me turn it off with the constant mayo references. I assume it was mandated to constantly mention them. It was kind of funny though after the guy nearly puked after trying the ice cream and mayo they stopped showing them trying the different foods and also muted the audio. The marketing team should be fired after that.

Hokies were 6-6 in reg season, which I guess qualifies you, even for a prestigious contest like this where the winning coach gets 10 gallons of perfectly good mayonaise poured on his head. What a gong show marketing blitz these lesser bowls are.
