    I think the point here is that a 5-7 team is not bowl eligible by any measurable standards. The went winless the entire month of November for cryin’ out loud. 3 of those 4 losses were by at least 14 points or more.

    The over/under on this team was 7.5 wins before the season began. PJ will rah rah his win over Iowa for the first time in his career here and then play the angle that making any bowl is a great accomplishment.

    Who cares? There are too many bowl games and there is always at least one 5 win team that gets in. Im certainly not bragging about them backdooring their way in this year because of good academics, but Flek has a much more disciplined team, no off field distractions and % wise is the winningest coach in a long dang time. He has the highest winning % since 1950!

    Lets extend him until 2035 at $10 million per.

    No, I’m just pointing out how ridiculous it is when everybody thinks this guy walks on water.

    I’ll leave this one alone until next year when he gets out recruited and out coached again. But beating Indiana and maybe even Maryland will keep the bar set at a acceptable height.

    Who says he walks on water? You’re putting words in others mouths no one has said that. Is the program better off after his hire? Absolutely, but this was a very disappointing season. As I’ve mentioned before his recruiting is actually very good all things considered in the big ten and nationally. Some guys just don’t pan out.

    That’s a ridiculous, absurd idea.

    …something like 10 years, $8.5 million per with up to $2 million in incentives each season if more than 7 new catchphrases are coined and they reach a .500 record seems much more appropriate

    There have been threads about Gopher football every season for years. Go ahead and quote all the times someone has given him that high of praise.

    I’m curious, why do we think he recruits well? His recruiting class last year was ranked 46th nationally on 247 sports, and 8th in the Big Ten. Or are you saying he recruits well for Minnesota? Maryland and Illinois had better recruiting classes than MN! Forget about OSU, Mich, PSU.

    I agree with Dan, everybody I know thinks he’s the best. Maybe cause I’m not a gopher fan, but I don’t see it. Middle to bottom of the Big Ten west, well now it’ll be just bottom quarter of the Big Ten is as far as this team is going to go.

    Now Athan has entered the transfer portal so the Gophers will have to find a QB. They also lost a RB but he never played.

    Michigan is favored over Iowa by a whopping 24 points on Saturday. Iowa might win if the Michigan bus crashes on the way to the game. lol

    From what I heard on KFAN the Gophers were already eyeballing a new QB through the portal as well. My guess is they informed him of that, which led to his decision.

    Yep they offered this Max guy from New Hampshire yesterday. He had other offers as well.

    Max Brosmer is the new kids name, from the football hotbed of University of New Hampshire rotflol (by way of Georgia), but seriously if you lead FCS, you can certainly play at the U. In general I like the transfer portal, but this is one downside everyone chases a starting role rather than competing for one. Good for guys like Brosmer who probably should be playing at a higher level, but I’d argue it’s not good for the Athan’s of the world that probably need someone to push them. You won’t find many good players, historically, who haven’t had to compete and win a starting spot.

    “In 36 career games with the Wildcats, Brosmer completed 62% of his passes for 8,713 yards. He had a touchdown-interception ratio of 70 to 25, 12 of which came in 2019. He had another standout season this year, tossing 29 touchdowns and just five interceptions while rushing for five touchdowns.”

    Me thinks Dutchy was snubbed by the U of M at one time or another. There are literally 14 Gophers active in the NFL right now… that could never be said before. He loves up on the miserable Twins, who haven’t won anything in over 35 years. coffee

    Probably true. Looks like Iowa is the best team in the west, though. Don’t see Minnesota playing for the big ten title. I think for having a back up quarterback and third string tightend, we did ok. Plus Cooper De Jean is out, he’s not bad. Too bad the Gophers beat us. coffee

    Next season will not have anymore “east vs west” in the championship. They are taking the top 2 teams regardless. I have a feeling we’ll see a lot of Michigan vs Ohio State games in consecutive weeks.

    Iowa couldn’t score if Michigan ran off the field with 2 minutes left on the clock. whistling

    I know KF is upset his son got fired at Iowa but their offense has been terrible for a few years. Didn’t matter who their QB has been under center.

    Minnesota currently has 13 players active in the NFL.

    Maryland has 16
    Illinois has 16
    Nebraska has 16
    Wisconsin has 23

    I’m not really sure what that proves, but PJ isn’t exactly tearing it up comparatively either.

    I’m looking forward to a new QB. I wanted to believe that Athan would develop but he wasn’t able to really do it this year. New blood will bring new life.

    Only problem with Brosmer is 1 year of eligibility. Even if he makes it through 2024 season without injury, still leaves the program w/o something to build on.

    MBB team has a long way to go to be competitive in the conference, but fun watching a bunch of MN kids playing out there.

    There were 3 kids from the U of M who entered the portal yesterday and 2 were QBs. There is an incoming freshman QB that is supposed to be a stud, but AK was supposed to be too so we will see about him.

    Maybe Minnesota should go to DivII?
    Then we might have a slim chance at a national title

    Michigan has 49 active players in the NFL.
    OSU has 63.
    Penn State has 44.

    I don’t think anyone expects PJ to recruit like these teams, and obviously NFL talent doesn’t directly correlate to on field success at the college level. But PJ isn’t even recruiting MN effectively, let alone the rest of the country. We can argue all we want but with him at the helm, MN is not going to improve. You’re looking at a team that will be out of the top 10 teams in the Big Ten (sounds weird to say). If everyone continues to want him there’s no shame in that, but don’t complain about a 15th place big ten finish next year either.

    Quote…”MN is not going to improve” ???

    2017 = 5-7 * conf 2-7
    2018 = 7-6 * conf 3-6
    2019 = 11-2 * conf 7-2
    2020 = 3-4 * conf 3-4 (covid)
    2021 = 9-4 * conf 6-3
    2022 = 9-4 * conf 5-4
    2023 = 5-7 * conf 3-6

    Looking at the past 7 seasons under Fleck, you would be hard pressed to say they haven’t improved… and to think they won’t improve after this, one of his worst ??? crazy

    2 of the last 4 years they were sub 500.
    2022 they had the easiest conference schedule known to man, no PSU, no OSU, and no Michigan, and they still couldn’t win the west.
    Next year we add 4 teams better than the gophers to the conference slate. You honestly think they will compete against Oregon and Washington better than they did Michigan or OSU?
    How many kids entered the portal today from MN? Do we think quality transfers are coming here?

    I think it’s pretty easy to say this team will not improve.

    I was a Cubs fan since I was 5, I get it, it’s easy to be passionate about your team. But I also realize the best part of Cubs games on WGN when I was little was listening to Harry Carey get drunk, not the quality of play on the field. I hope the Gophers improve. But the realist in me says they will not. I think it’s going to be some lean years for the foreseeable future.
