Morgan underthrows almost every deep ball because he waits for the receiver to be open before he throws it. He can’t seem to anticipate the receiver getting open. He played terrible today. He missed many open receivers by throwing it over their head.

Well they did beat a winless Indiana team on the road today, but unfortunately both Iowa and Wisconsin also won.
In order to win the big ten west, they need to beat Wisconsin next week and have Nebraska beat Iowa. I could see the Huskers beating Iowa but beating the Badgers? They have won 7 games in a row. I don’t see it happening.

I agree.
November 20, 2021 at 7:59 pm #2075299I don’t either, they fall under the category of MN sports teams rarely, and I mean rarely pulling an upset.
IMO this will go down as a season of “what could have been.” If they hadn’t had those two awful damn losses they’d have finished the season 9-3 with losses to Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Not CFP material but a successful season and a pretty good bowl game. Do what I just described but somehow upset Wisconsin or Iowa and we’re talking about a legit top-ten 10-2 squad. Unfortunately they had those horrible losses and we’ll never know.
December 6, 2021 at 9:16 am #2079320Well they earned a bid to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec 28 at 9:15pm against West Virginia.
Wisconsin, Purdue, and Penn State all received higher bowl game bids even though Minnesota finished ahead of them.
West Virginia finished 6-6. I expect a win.

Sanford will not be coming back which to those that closely follow the program really isnt a surprise. Not sure who they are targeting, but he was under fire by a lot of people.
December 6, 2021 at 9:26 am #2079328I think the previous guy who left for Penn State is coming back after failing there.

Correct, Kirk Ciarocca is expected to return. He was the OC in 2019 before Penn State hired him away for big money and then canned him after one year, he spent the past season as an offensive advisor or something elsewhere.

Was that the year they went 11-1?

Correct, when Tanner Morgan looked like a legitimate D1 QB, and possible NFL prospect, in the 2 seasons since then he’s looked like a backup HS QB that shouldn’t be playing.

I’ve been wondering why they havent given Annexstad another shot. That year he and Tanner were going at it he was pretty aggressive, but then got injured and Tanner never looked back. They obviously must see something in practice, but Id like to see him get a shot. Tanner coming back for another year. They do have at least one Freshman that looks like a stud QB that Athan Kaliakmanus (sp?).

They actually went 11-2. Losses were to Iowa and Wisconsin that season.
RipjiggenPosts: 11769December 6, 2021 at 12:46 pm #2079421Annexstad won’t be getting another shot at least not for maroon and gold. He is the transfer portal.

Missed that. Good luck to the kid. Maybe he can go to Nebraska since Martinez left. Though that program is a dumpster fire.

Ain’t kickoff like 7:15 for you?
December 29, 2021 at 7:07 am #2085078They looked pretty solid last night. I think we could be good next year.
December 29, 2021 at 8:13 am #2085093The salesman’s two back ground attack did look impressive at times!
December 29, 2021 at 9:04 am #2085107I tried to stay up for the game, and made it past half time . They were dominating that game and should have been up a couple more scores but had some bad turnovers. 9 win season and a bowl game win used to be considered an all-time great season for the Gophers. They are losing some of their studs up front, so will be interesting to see how good the recruits are coming in behind those guys.
December 29, 2021 at 9:15 am #20851119 wins is a great season. Even with an embarrassing loss to Bowling Green at home, you can’t discount the season overall wasn’t a success. I thought they should have gotten a better bowl game against a better opponent but you can only play where they send you.
Gregg GunterPosts: 1059December 29, 2021 at 9:30 am #2085116I’m really looking forward to next season. Got some new recruits to change their minds, have key players returning, and fingers crossed for Mo to have a good year.

yea, they said during the game they have 7 scholarship running backs, there going to need to do some fancy footwork to keep them all happy.
think they said only 2 of there offensive linemen will be back next year, so that could be interesting.
i’ve tried all season to watch or keep an eye on the gopher football team and didnt realize that the defense was rated so high nationally!!!!!! thats usually been there weak spot!!
December 29, 2021 at 9:44 am #2085121Descent year that should have been better but future looks good with horses they have coming back and coming in. QB play is ultimately what is going to be what vaults them or keep them from being really good.
blackbayPosts: 699December 29, 2021 at 12:53 pm #2085178Good win for the Gophers and much needed. However, I thought both offenses mediocre at best and Morgan looked pretty rusty IMO. The Gophers tried to keep WV in the game with turn overs, but the defense was STOUT! Thomas also looked great averaging nearly 7 yards per carry. The O line played really good and the seniors will be missed. I have to imagine with Ibrahim coming back, he must know that there are some good linemen coming up next year.
December 29, 2021 at 1:20 pm #2085182It was kind of a kick to the nuts for the Gophers to be placed in the bowl that they were. Played a far inferior opponent. Would have liked to see them come out and really put it to them. Offense moved the ball but was pretty sloppy. Defense looked good. All things said and done, one of those games were the score didnt really show how much more dominant one team was over the other.
Either way, Gophers -5.5 paid out.
I agree, I see where Rutgers at 5-7 is playing in the Gator bowl coming up. That’s gotta be more prestigious then the guaranteed bowl!
December 29, 2021 at 6:47 pm #2085271Rutgers made a bowl at 5-7? I thought only teams that were .500 or better were bowl eligible.
