If you haven’t heard/read about the spread of the invasive Asian carp spieces currently threatening our waters right here in the Upper Midwest ~ welcome to Earth.

While the experts continue to speculate impact on the ecosystem and the $7 billion dollar fishing industry ~ I’m curious to get an IDO head count ~

Don’t tell anyone, but if I had a place to dump them or if they taste great I may even do it for free.

Bosman that’s scary indeed. I’d like to add this for everyone that fishes the Great Mississippi River. For all of us here in Central Illinois and the folks that travel here to fish the Illinois River we’re in a terrible situation and have been for years regarding the Asian Carp!! The Peoria Pool which contains the area that is fished the most for Sauger out of any of the pool’s has gotten 10 times worse for Asian’s in the last 3-4 years. And the pool above is not far behind. It would be a terrible thing for those things to get into the Great Lakes for sure. But our fishery down here I think has lost it’s battle. It is hard to go anywhere now and troll without having the danger of one of those fish end up in your boat. It’s funny but not alot of Big Time Politicians have shown alot of concern for our river down here. I guess as long as they show a preference for the Illinois River maybe it will keep them from heading north up the Mississippi. But you don’t here the big lobbying groups hollering about how devistating that would be. We just gotta pray that doesn’t happen. Glenn

I’d do it for $50. I am writing up a business plan as we speak!

Also, I saw some Wisconsin Outdoors show that showed you how to fillet them up real nice. I bet they taste good to if you remove the fatty parts.

    I think I read they’re the #1 aquaculture fish.

That’s a weird article, talking to USGS and NOAA ? They have fisheries people?

I can see the point about the mussels already being established making things tougher. Though it would seem that if the fish could live in the water flowing out of the lake they could live in the lake.

I’ve never heard of the shrimp before.

I bet for $100 it would be like red fox in the 70’s and it would turn into real work.

These are the ones that jump into the boat…easy pickings…go for a ride and have enough carp to pay for gas when you get back !

We already have Siver and Bigheads here on pools 13-16. The IL DNR has even admitted it. Hate to be this way, but it will not be long until they move up to God’s Country.

I said no, I’d do it for free, just give me dump sites to dispose of them.

$100 dollars a fish bounty? This fish would not stand a chance and would be gone in a hurry. I would be all over it. Sign me up.

    Dude, are you kidding?

I’d be on that like white on rice. If I got good enough at it I’d go pro. I always wanted to be a professional fisherman!

I wonder if a guy could get a license to use cast nets for this project? Or possibly an electro license? It’d be interesting for sure!

They’re extremely edible with very fine white flesh and, interestingly, HUGE ribs that can be used like the ribs are when you’re doing lamb. You can roast, grill or bake them on the bone in cutlets and then pick the cut up by the bone to eat it.

Plus the bones make awesome toothpicks.

    My thoughts exactly Mike

    ELMINATE the source(s).

    Establish drop off points.

Define methodology bounty hunters could use to take these fish out of the water without harming other native speices.

Impose hefty fines on do-it-yourself fisheries attempting to make a quick buck.

Impower the “people” to take care of the potential problem with a little cash incentive.
