Anyone know can you target carp in the winter? I was catching them up till ice formed but never heard of anyone targeting them in the winter.

There was a long discussion some years ago on another web site concerning carp’s ability to digest anything when the water temps were low. Consensus seemed to be they just don’t work well in cold water.

I have never heard of anyone targeting carp in really cold water except with a spear. Then there are the commercial netting guys but I assume we are not going there.

I would have to agree on that statement. When you find the carp this time of year they sure seem bunched up!I made 6 consecutive casts in 1 area yesterday & hooked 5 fish, landing 3 & had a gentlemens release on 2 with a large scale left on hook showing their presance.Had 2 other large fish on in this area as well that came unbuttoned which left my imagination running wild as to what specie they might be. The bigger carp sure can put your arms & lighter tackle through a workout, especially when you foul hook them right behind the dorsal fin.Yeee Haaaa for sure!

So for the most part they go dormant and the only time you see them is when you snag into a sleeping school?

There is a recent post in the ice fishing forum about a guy catching carp through the ice with dough baits and wax worms. I guess it can be done.
