The Buffalo was caught just last week in the end of november!
My father the day after Thanksgiving.
Don’t let the shorts fool you it was 40 degrees!

This was my first year targeting carp so late in the year and it has paid off with some of my larger ones of the year just under 10 pounds.

Nice report. It’s a blast when you can find ’em this late in the season. My goal for the winter is to finally figure out how to target carp through the ice. If I can figure it out I might actually enjoy ice fishing for once.

Them are some nice fish O4L! My favorite is the Buffalo. They have to be one of the most misundertood fish swimming in MN.

Jeremy I know of a spot that has big carp under the ice
we see them on our way to a walleye spot when the ice is clear shoot me a PM and we can talk
I see them there every year but have never caught one through the Ice and think it would be a blast.
I dont think its safe yet but with the cold weather it wont be long.

what do you use to catch a buffalo. I’ve tried everything from worms, to dough baits on them… i found this creek that was just packed with them in the spring. but they dont bite at all.

First of all Bigmouth and Smallmouth Buffs are completely different in presentation. I catch almost all my SM Buffs on a crawler bottom rig. Try drifting a crawler through the group but I have found the hard ones to catch are the ones you see. I have caught them site fishing but it is mostly getting your bait in their path because the feed on a lot of plant matter but they do not refuse a worm if they are feeding. They will also hit a jig and minnow in deep water also. Just remember there is a reason they are not “GameFish” They are tougher to catch than a musky the 1000 cast fish!
