Rough Idle

Started my 40 HP Johnson today for the first time in 2 years and it seems to idle really rough. To the point that it is “jumping” too hard to troll straight. I cleaned the plugs up, but maybe new ones would take care of the roughness. It really seems a lot better once the rpms climb though. This was all tested in a barrel of water so no actual time on the boat water. Thoughts?

Clean the carbs. Todays gas can’t sit that long without gumming everything up.

Maybe run some Seafoam through it.

After setting for a couple years and the symptoms it has I would rebuild the carbs for sure.

please dont try running it wide open to see if it cleans out,if you have a plugged main jet,you can melt/score/burn through a piston then you have a pile of crap.
    clean the carbs first !
