    Hello everyone,

It has been a good bit of time since I’ve been active in posting on here but I continue to read a lot of the posts and I’m glad to see that this community still continues to thrive. Once again I am requesting advice.

This time I want to hear your best rod rack storage ideas for holding rods and reels in place while being stored in your home/garage/shop. I am willing to spend money to purchase one, so if there is a brand that has worked well fell free to post it. I have basic wood working supplies/tools and enough skills to build a simple rod rack if you have ideas but I will never claim to be a wood craftsman. Any ideas are appreciated. I will be storing open water gear that is mostly spinning with a few baitcaster combos if that makes a difference for your ideas. Thanks in advance.

If you have a boat and park it in a garage this works well. I have 2 Rod Saver rod holders hanging from the ceiling of my garage. These are mounted right above where I used to park my boat. While I was in my boat I could easily load and unload the rods.

Just copied this from my neighbor and it works fantastic. I can put 15 rods & reels up right above my boat and it cost me about $15. Very handy to work on my gear when sitting in the boat directly below this. My kid mounted it with 2 1/2” deck screws into the studs. Got them at menards. $5 each I think.

I made a rack to hang on the ceiling above my boat. As said above, it doesn’t get more convenient.

I have been using ladder looks that are made for the wall. They are around 8” deep. You can put many rods on one hook and on the next hook down flip the reels to the other side to fit more in. Depending on how stiff the rods are you will need 2 to 3 hooks per rack. I don’t have a picture of it but you can get lots of rods in doing this up the wall. On the ground I have all my tackle boxes.

I guess I have an old pic from when I moved in. I put a tarp on a pole to cover it up and help keep the saw dust off the rods. I went this rout since I am not tall enough to reach my ceiling without using something to stand on.

Part of my man cave, all I really bought were the rubber clips.

If you have the ceiling height, I prefer vertical storage. I have one of the Rapala rod racks and a couple of less expensive plastic ones. The Rapala rack is much sturdier.

There is a plan to build a nice rack on MinWax’s website. I’ve built and sold quite a few … both for open water rods and also ice rods. If you’d like for me to build one for you I’d be honored, just PM me. Otherwise have a look at the plan and give it a go for yourself. You can always customize to fit your space and number of rods.

I build about 15′ of what Kevin posted above.
Also made a mini for ice fishing.
I also use PVC j hooks for hanging pipe on my ceiling for the really long rods

i buy the bike hangers at menards for 99 cents a pop. screw them into a 2×4 a few inches apart, make 2 of them and they are good to go. can usually get 2 rods on each hook. and hang them from the rafters.

I put a bunch of the hot tuna plastic holders from Amazon on the ceiling above the pontoon. Out of the way. I can post a picture another time. My walls are full of other stuff.

Thanks for all of the advice, I think I’m going to try a vertical option for now.
Once I can build a garage to put the boat in, I’ll utilize the ceiling storage but at the moment that is not an option unfortunately. I’ve got a few links from folks on here and some friends so I want to give them a try first, but Kevin I may be sending you a PM if my attempts don’t work. I’d just really love to be able to store my rods inside and I think a vertical rack would be best, my garage is not insulated (I like to keep my open water reels out of the cold) plus I’m kind of a neat freak about my reels getting dusty so inside storage for now will be the play until kiddos come and I lose my storage space. Thanks again if you chimed in with ideas!

    Ceiling or vertical (wall) storage?

I have a couple DIY’s I did, let me know what you’re looking to do.

If your ceiling is high enough, vertical is the way to go.

Here’s an easy rack I built “for a friend” that fits 27 combos. Just 2×12″s and shelf brackets.

All that’s needed is a router and holesaw/drill bits.

I bought this G-Loomis display from a retail close out. Maybe not always feasible but something to keep an eye out for. I love it.

    Amazon is a good source.
