Same question I have, my rods are up to 42″. Greg R., doesn’t give rod length. Thanks.
November 29, 2017 at 6:54 pm #1731292Fleet Farm had a hard sided case made by Lakes and Rivers that was nice.
TravisPosts: 56November 29, 2017 at 7:00 pm #1731296OtterBox. Best hard side case I have ever owned. Fits 6 rods…..suitcase style and will be essential in protecting those expensive custom rods and tips as your bouncing all over the ice.
November 29, 2017 at 10:26 pm #1731358Otter box all the way. Mine fell out of a sled behind the snowmobile a couple years ago. It got ran over by a truck, 5 of 6 combos were fine. I did have to replace the hinge and it’s still ticking today.

X3 yes the otter case is kinda big but it is bullet proof. Throw it on the bottom of your sled and pile stuff on top of it with confidence that your rods are going to be safe. And yes its not the cheapest case there is but a $100 is a small price to pay if you have a 5-6 TUCR,ThornBros,DH rods ect. to protect.
riverrunsInactivePosts: 2218November 30, 2017 at 6:53 am #1731389Looks like the otter box length is 40″? Anything out there for my rods that are 42″? Thanks. Shawn
TumaInactiveFarmington, MNPosts: 1403November 30, 2017 at 7:45 am #1731412I may be wrong but I don’t think I have seen a rod case for 42” rods. You can always look at hard shell gun cases.
curleytailPosts: 674November 30, 2017 at 8:15 am #1731416I have a flambeau tactical gun case that works well for about $40. Not sure if I’d drive a truck over it or not but I have no problem putting it on the bottom of my sled under power auger and gear. I can fit 6 combos in it easy enough. Do have to fold the spinning reel handles down though.
I’d have to see how long it is. Might be 38 or 40 inches. For only 4 rods plano makes a smaller hard case that works too. Might be 36 inches long. I think thats a takedown shotgun case.

Dan BakerPosts: 927November 30, 2017 at 9:04 am #1731435I second the Otterbox. It can only hold rods up to 38″, but if that isn’t a problem for you, it is a super strong box. Also check out the new insert for the box designed by Tuned Up Custom Rods. This insert allows the rods to be secured and still leave space to store tackle and other gear. These are pretty awesome. They will be available at the Tuned Up booth at the ice show and on the Tuned Up website.

pharmfisherPosts: 83November 30, 2017 at 10:34 am #1731479I installed 4 pvc pipes into the inside bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. The pipes were about 4-5 inches long. I used pvc that had a diameter just bigger than the rod handle. You can then store up to 4 rods and they never get tangled up. They won’t do much for protection though.
Similar to this but i put the pvc pipes inside the bucket.

November 30, 2017 at 1:27 pm #1731544I have a Plano dbl gun case that works. I gorilla glued the foam to the plastic so it wouldn’t move. I can get 5-6 rods in there.
Reid BeilkePosts: 17November 30, 2017 at 1:52 pm #1731552I run the Plano tactical gun case. Looks like the interior Dims are 43″X13″X5″. Its Cheaper than the Otter and I think alittle tougher even. Best part is you don’t have to break down any of your reel handles ever. Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Plano-Weather-Tactical-Case-42-Inch/dp/B00E2217I6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1512071324&sr=8-3&keywords=plano+tactical+gun+case+42

When will these be available online? I couldn’t find them on the web site
Thanksgator800rPosts: 60December 1, 2017 at 8:06 am #1731788Otter seems to always be sold on of things on there website. Your best best is to buy it through another store. I bought mine through fish USA when they ran a special 20% off anything in the store and free shipping. $80 to my door.
December 1, 2017 at 1:37 pm #1731951I spent about $100 on multiple cheap gun and bow cases before settling on an Otter case, which I should have just done in the first place. Essentially, I paid $200 for my Otter case now
December 1, 2017 at 2:12 pm #1731963I would go with the otter box since you never see used ones for sale. Good sign
December 1, 2017 at 2:26 pm #1731965When I don’t want to carry a box, I cut some golf club tubes to length, made a slit on one side to slide reel handle up into tube, two small slits on side of tube to bungee tube around reel handle. Works pretty slick. DK.
Brandon PPosts: 40December 1, 2017 at 2:46 pm #1731972Ice Fishing innovations http://icefishinginnovations.com/ has a really nice case that can hold rods up to 40″. It is on the bigger side and a tad bulky but will hold most of if not all of your gear. Also, striker ice has a really nice rod backback that can hold up to a 36″ rod. http://www.strikerstore.com/Transporter-p/704100.htm
Cameron whitePosts: 516December 1, 2017 at 4:28 pm #1732005With 42” rods, the case above from amazon is your best bet. None of the others will do a 42” rod.

They are designed to hold 6 rods but I easily get 8 in it.
No need to fold reel handles either.lshd69Posts: 14December 2, 2017 at 11:52 am #1732174Check out expeditionoutdoors.com for the rigid frame ice rod case – 45″. Cabelas sells the 36″ version and it gets good reviews. I have the ice pack soft case and very happy with that product.

riverrunsInactivePosts: 2218December 3, 2017 at 8:12 pm #1732511Thanks for all the feedback regarding my rods 42″ long.
So is there a soft case with padding that would protect the rods also? Only need something for about 2 or 3 rod and real combos? Thanks.

Wish I would have known about these before the Ice Show this past weekend! I grabbed a Sportsman case and this would be awesome so I wouldn’t have to fold the handles.
December 5, 2017 at 12:13 pm #1732962Thanks for all the replies. I am looking at the otterbox rod storage. Limited stock online. Ice show will be in Milwaukee this weekend. Hopefully find one there
December 6, 2017 at 5:38 am #1733213St Croix has an ice rod bag to hold a 42″ long ice rod. Hold two 42″ combo’s just fine. You can squeeze in a third combo but a 36″ rod or shorter.
