Hello, I just want to see what you all recommend for rod specs (length and action) when it comes to fishing Rippin Raps and small spoons. I don’t plan on using anything bigger than 1/16oz or a #3 Rippin Rap. Is a noodle tip any good for these types of presentations? Any input is appreciated, thank you!

I don’t like using noodle rods, so I don’t. Each mfg power rating will vary too so just saying L power rods is not an absolute. I also prefer using rods between 28″-36″ in length.

Noodles are quite.limp for rip raps.

Like bob said, power varies from manufacturers. I like the 36-42″ range rods. Much better control and more comfortable to fish.

When I’m developing a new ice rod for myself, I look for a specific action in the blank based on weight and stress. For weight, I want to see it loaded ( tip down a couple inches and the blank just starting to slightly bend with about 2 to 3 times the lures weight.

Then with line ran through the guides, I stress the blank to mock having a large fish on it. That will show the back bone and how fast the tip section is. My ice rap rods are very similar in action to a good 1/4oz blade bait rod for open water. Just scaled down. Hopefully that helps

I built 2 rods to fish the #3s.35″ carbon with a fast tip.Started as a Janns 31″ walleye carbon.Added an extension to the handle to lengthen it and build the handle on that.Profiled the blank to have a nice fast tip,and good backbone.

Best line I found is 4# Crystal fireline.I tried 4# Sufix ice magic, and the lure did not load very well, this bait fishes light. But the 3# ice magic did much better. It’s a gamble doing that in pike infested areas.

I’ve been using a 30” TUCR QT with #3 Rippin Raps for crappie. I really like the action of the rod for this presentation, but it has a touch more power than I need with the #3. I bet that it would be just about perfect with a #4.

I have been fishing #3 Rippin Raps on a 32″ Bullwhip. Been loving it.

32″ TUCR Commander works very well for jigging baits like a Rippin Rap, Slab Rap, and Acme Hyper Glide. I got it this season and it’s hard to put down.

I use my 32″ TUCR Fusion or my 32″ Precision for my #3 Rippn Raps. The Fusion is ideal. I use my 32″ Commander for any minnow profile bait that is bigger than #3.

I use two different rods for raps. One is a rod I got from Captain Paddlefoot, which is my absolute favorite rod I’ve ever had. He lists it as a 32″ MLXF, solid carbon. I also really like my 32″ Precision for 4’s and 5’s. I’ve yet to use 3’s, so I can’t comment on them.
