Let’s say I’m longlining #5 shad raps on Lake Pepin in 6 to 8 FOW (Coincidentally not unlike the pepin trolling video). I’ve got 4 lines out. How long are my rods? How do you guys do it? I’m thinking two long and two short. Thanks.

Planer boards are an option also. If not, 8 footers with medium to fast tip for the outside rods and 6.5 footers with a medium tip for the inside rods. As with all fishing techniques, trial and error will always prevail.

I run a pair of 10’6″ outside rods and a pair of 7’6″ inside rods.

As PP stated, you’ll experience a small learning curve and some frusteration. Nothing worse when one lure fouls with a leaf and wipes out the whole spread.

First and foremost make absolutely sure your Cranks are tuned.

The spread can be run with what ever rods you have I have 10,8.6s and Shorty 5. If I have my 8.6s out I will run 2 straight out the side of the boat and the other two straight back off each corner. Or throw on some planer boards many options mostly what you are comfortable with.

That shallow I would have a tendency to try and get the baits off to the sides a little farther. But then again I have hammered fish running 16 feet of line straight behind the boat with a size 9 Bomber Long A in 5 feet of water trolling.

So a guy doesn’t really need the shorties, huh? Thanks for your answers, gents.

I run two 8’6s perpendicular to the boat and two 6’6s at a 45 degree angle to the gunnel behind them. Just need to make sure turns are wide enough so lines don’t cross.
