Rod holder vibration question

14 foot aluminum boat with 6hp two stroke, I have Scotty holders through-bolted, one on either side.

The Yammie is pretty quiet but like any two stroke she shakes a bit, and the tin boat seems to pick it all up and transfer the vibrations to the rod holders, all the way down to the rod tip. Questions:

    1. Could that affect lure action?

    2. If so, any recommendations for dampening? Either at the motor mount or the rod holders themselves?

Thanks! I’ve been just holding my rod but thinking of hitting the st croix next week and would like to get 2 lines going. First year with an aluminum boat and still getting the hang of things.

Sounds like an unintentional bonus to me waytogo

I’d go with it and not worry a bit.

I’ve caught my share of walleyes in a 14′ bench boat on the Croix with a 6 hp Merc myself )

Still wish I had that boat.

If you are long lining I would assume the line and water would absorb that vibration. Just my opinion but I don’t think it’ll be an issue.

Mine does the same , not real bad , but when I get the speed dialed in I can tell by the rod vibration . Also have a friend who swears it helps the lure action . We catch a lot of fish in his boat , so I don’t doubt it .

Appreciate the feedback everyone. I won’t sweat it other than it makes it tough to read the tip for a fouled treble.

I’m not a fan of excess noise.

I’d take a pool noodle and custom fit for just the top section of rod holders to hold the rod snuggly enough in the middle. Double sided exterior tape, or red green style and fold the duct tape over on itself. If it lasts a season it’s a win. Kids usually don’t notice 6″-1′ gone off their noodles every year for fishing purposes.

I don’t hate that idea. I’ll have to trim the blue one this time, I just took a chunk off the purple one last week — and these are the ones I got to replace the two I split to pad my gunnels before I got a roof rack. Highly useful stuff. waytogo

Hold the rod and you dont have to worry about it. Feeling the fish bite is half the fun of fishing. Plus holding the rod you can feel if the lure is running right, hitting bottom right, going over the rock and logs right and give that lure a lot more action than just letting it sit in a holder.

I totally agree Mike! Anytime I’m on inland MN waters the rod is pretty much in my hands.

But on the croix or in Wisconsin, it’s tough to hold two rods, the tiller handle, and then manage whatever else.

Velcro tape works great for vibration points as it’s easy to adjust and tighten as needed. My kicker motor linkage vibration used to drive me nuts until I wrapped it.
