Anybody got an idea for a DIY rod holder attachment for a flasher? Just want to keep a hand free for when im hole hopping. I have a Marcum and Lowrance ice pack. I see there is an accessory you can buy for vexilar but cant find anything applicable for other units. Thinking of making something…

Vexilars rod holder is the best I’ve used. Their Glo-ring has a universal screw on socket to accept them. Maybe give them a call and see if they have that adapter they could sell you separately. Or just buy one of the Glo-ring and pull double duty and use it as a rod holder.

PVC screwed to the side works, but you can’t swivel it if needed.

You can install one on each side of your shuttle handle. Get 2 1.25″ PVC Couplers or whatever diameter works with your rod handles. Cut a notch out of the PVC to accommodate your reel seat foot creating a saddle for your real seat to rest in. I use 3/4″ hole saw and drill near the edge of the coupler to create the saddle. Next, file the PVC saddle hole to a clean finish. I then determine the position for the rod holder on the side of my shuttle. I screw or rivet the pvc coupler to side of the plastic shuttle handle through the shuttle bag. I actually screw through the shuttle bag into the plastic handle structure.

This creates a very clean light and durable rod holder.

Do you screw through both sides of the coupler?

Here’s what I came up with, just 2 carriage bolts and it slips on and off.

no I just pre-drill a hole in the saddle on one wall off the pic. Since one side of the coupling is cut away for the saddle you have the ability to drill through only one wall of the coupling. With one screw in the top of the rod holder it remains upright but you can add a second screw at the bottom of the coupler too.
