Rod Choice?

I’m looking to add two new longer leadcore combos to my arsenal for trolling.

With that being said, what are my best (affordable) options? I cannot justify spending hundreds on each combo as it seems unnecessary. I currently have a couple of the 6’6′ Cabela’s Depthmaster leadcore combos that I’ve been pleased with for around $60. However, I’m looking for some longer rods to get cranks away from the boat (not interested in using planer boards where I fish).

Has anyone used the Cabelas Depthmaster Planer Board combo 9’0″ for pulling lead? DMPB-90M It’s a medium action rod that comes with the size 30 reel – which I have on my other, shorter combos. Do you think these rods will work for pulling cranks on lead?

    Thanks

They will work, but I like a wider spread. If you run a 9′ and a 6’6″, you’re not spread as wide as you’d like to be. I run cabelas 12 footers and 5 footers. Tangles – gone.

The Cabelas rods will have enough backbone to run lead as you described, I run the same rods with lead and inline planers.
Another very affordable rod I use are Diawa Wilderness trolling rods paired with Cabelas DM reels. They are a little stiffer, but work great. Get mine from FishUSA

I have 4 Okuma lead set ups 6-7 years old , no issues bought on eBay , spooled from seller full core , best price I could find.

Wow! You don’t happen to have a link to your seller, do you?
