from what I am seeing online looks like the Otter Cases are discontinued….

The Otter Sportsman case is not discontinued, or that we’ve been told. If you can’t find them in stores, you can purchase them directly from Otter.

And only the Otter ATV Gear has changed name to Rhino ATV Gear.

I always recommend plano gun cases for the budget minded but every single time I grab the Otter I am reminded of how perfect it is. It’s just heavy enough to protect well yet its very lite. Nice balance between the two. I like the latches and the over sized handle. Its perfect except for breaking down reels every time but I’m used to that and appreciate its thinner profile because of it.

Plano 108421 Gun Guard AW Tactical Case 42-Inch You guys missed the boat on this one. I bought this on amazon last month on sale for $59.99 shipped. Design the middle foam the way you want to and call it a day. I bought two. No brainer. You can do the same thing that ice fishing company did for almost 1/3 the price. They are ripping you off.

I have a hard gun style case and it works great. I have it fitted for 7 rods and I could run it over and they’d be fine…

I have to say, the Striker Transporter Bag has been great this year too. I actually got it to carry all my other stuff – ION batteries, extra gloves, tackle boxes, etc etc. But, I’ve used it a ton as a rod bag this season. In all honestly I’ve taken it every single trip trip out this year, and I bet I’ve taken my hard case about 50% of the time (or less when I sit and think about it). When I want to pack light, I throw 5 rods in my Transporter Bag and head out. I walk into a lot of lakes in the woods, and being able to throw everything in there and throw it on my back has been awesome. When I take the shack and ATV or Snowmobile, then I take the hard case. I have two buddies that needed new rod cases this year and they’ve seen both set-ups. Both have bought the Transporter Bag. For what its worth.

I have a case made by lakewood products.I purchased it from Thorne Bros a few years ago and it has worked great for me. Also has the 2 compartments for tackle. Hard case with padding.

I’ve been tempted to try a Sage balistic spey fly rod case. B&W sports also makes nice double travel cases – http://bwsports.com/RodReel%20Cases.htm

Otherwise, most any hard sided gun case over 45″ should work.

When I hike in, I currently take my reels off and use a simple tube.

Anybody have any feedback / experience on the Expedition Ice Pack rod case? I’ve heard a little conversation about them. Seems like people like them. Sounds like they put 5 – 6 rods and reels in them. It’s been suggested to glue PVC tubes in part of the bag to better protect the rods.
