I have one made by Ice Fishing Innovations. It’s nice but a little heavy.

i have a basic Frabill hard plastic rod case, wasnt too spendy and gets the job done. I have 4 rods that i carry at all times up to 34in in length and it works fine.

X2 keeps all my jigs lures extra line plastics scissors forceps and 6 rods. But weighs in at 21 lbs. and is large.

If you dig back through the last two years of Ice fishing posts, there a few threads with tons of ideas and links.
Wide variety and cost range $25.00 Hard sided double gun cases are perfect for travel in the vehicle, falling off the ATV,… to well over $100 for dam near bomb proof.

I’m working on a modified soft pack right now. Will have impact sides and divider for around 10 or so rods. Will also have straps for back packing and shoulder sling. If I get a manufacture to pick it up, should be ready by ’17

Same here. Decent case for $50 at Fleet Farm.

That sounds awesome Randy! Perfect for us that don’t have sleds/portables/ATV’s ect.

Can’t wait to see the finished product!

The Otter case hands down… can typically get them in the $75-$80 range this time of year…if you’re spending all that $$ on top quality rods, don’t go cheap to protect them…

I have two of the expedition hard cases. They are very well built and incredibly sturdy. Fleet Farm has one exactly like it on sale right now for $60. I can fit 6 rods incredibly tight or 4 comfortably, longest rod I use is 36″.

I have used all sorts of other cases from cheap gun cases to the Otter case. The otter case is good, but its walls are not quite as sturdy as the expedition. When I say I’m hard on my gear, I mean it. These cases hold up and keep my expensive rods in one piece.

Otter case or Ice innovations case. Both are good solid cases.

    Both have advantages and disadvantages.

I have an otter and ice innovations, both work well. My daily driver rod case is the Lakewood ice pole caddy. I like the size, weight and capacity.

I have that same case and love it as well.

Quick tip – they sell the same case for guns with the Plano name on it(and in a couple different lengths) as well and some places it is far cheaper to go with the gun case. I have 6 fully rigged combos inside and would be able to add 2 more if I wanted to cram them in.

I also removed the two end latches as well as the middle one to make access a lot quicker. I have it mounted to my ATV with the hinge side facing forward and even when trailering driving down a slushy highway it’s still sealed and nothing gets in.

Thanks guys I appreciate the responses. I will look into those. Does anyone have any case with the removable pieces of foam to custom fit the rod and reels to secure them even tighter in the case? If so which model and o you like that feature? Thanks again everyone and have fun fishing 🎣

ive been using the otter rod case for 2 or 3 seasons now and am happy with it. I can fit 6 rods with reels on inside. I haven’t dropped it off a building or anything but I wouldn’t be surprised if it could withstand that. I was leery of the cost like many, but I feel its been a good investment. I sure don’t miss untangling rods from a bucket!

I have both an Otter and a Frabill. The otter is definitely a nicer Rod Case but is also twice the money. However if you are protecting $100 rods it’s worth it to spend the extra money. Ice fishing innovations have really nice cases. I don’t own one but I had the owner Greg send me a couple of pictures of what he has to offer. These are from last year.

I’ve owned multiple cases over the years including the Ice Fishing Innovations case. Nice design and really good at protecting the rods. The only downfall is the sheer size and weight of it. Hard to find a place for it in the sled or in the fish house. I typically throw it on top of the portable when not going very far, but got a trip planned to Winnipeq, so I downsized a bit to the new double side clam rod locker as it was on sale on cabelas. Debated getting an Otter case, but needed room for more rods and storage. Yet to find the “perfect” case but all of them have their positives and negatives. Shoot me a message if you want more details on the ice fishing innovations one as I’ve had it for a while and have had both the foam designs they have come up with.

Flambeau Tactical AR case 40″, $37 at Farm and Fleet. Very tough, I can fit 6 TUCR combos in the case.

I still run a Stone Legacy Revolution bag. However, all my fishing is done on foot. I can store up to 8 rods in it (all covered with rod slicks), but it’s much more comfortable with 6. Holds a ton of stuff, but I’m not sure it’s around anymore. I’ve been kicking around buying a hard-sided case, but will probably keep using the Revolution until it wears out.

I have the Otter. Nice case but I have to collapse the reel handles to store everything. It slows me down and is a pain. I keep 6 rods/reel. I think it really is good for 4 combos.

the Frabill heavy duty rod case has 2 layers of the customizable foam. very nice for taking out to fit the reels in then everything stays put and organized. im OCD that way

I bought a Rapala tube case this year and have been really happy. I own an Otter Case but I needed something easier to carry when I am on foot. I have 6 rods in the rapala bag. Each rod is in a rod slick allowing me to get 3 per side. It will store rods up to 40″ so I can take along a Laker rod if I need to.

You might be thinking of the Plano model 108361. I’m thinking about getting the same case if I can find a deal on it somewhere. $75 is more than I want to spend.

from what I am seeing online looks like the Otter Cases are discontinued….

They are changing the name from Otter to Rhino on their accessory line.

And Reeds in Onamia had a handful of Otter branded cases today when I stopped in.
