I think most hobby builders find their own method with trial and error. A few things I do:
I have two rows of tape on the blank. 1. where the guide goes, 2. just above or below the guide to mark a straight line down the blank.

when you wrap your guides, the thread should be taunt, but not too tight. You should be able to move the foot of the guide with a little effort after its wrapped.
Thread mono through the guides from the handle through the tip. If you have the center of the handle marked and the tip set perfectly, have the line taunt and adjust them to the line.

back up a couple feet and look through them and sight them

good idea, thanks. Are your eyes glued to the blank? Hard to move then aren’t they?

Very seldom do I ever glue them. If I do, they need to be set perfect the first time obviously. Only “glue” is the epoxy when I finish them
