Went to the pond last weekend from Wednesday to Sunday and on Thursday we were gonna meet some other guys they wanted to go out on southwest side because of a hot tip lol(yesterdays news) so they said Rocky reef would let out trucks pulling wheelhouse. Well we went in to get road pass and info, to my surprise I asked the older lady about depths / the bite, and all she said was the pass was 10 bucks and any other info would cost way more than that!! Wtf I said how much she stated a lot more than that I said have a good day and we walked out. The ice roads to Rocky reef were at 1st a cow path that turned into a goat path that turned into a racoon trail needless to say not very good experience. We had a rental rented out of hunters point for Fri sat sun great 4 man shack average fishing kudos to the prime rib sat night also.

So pretty much things haven’t changed there in the past 20 years.
We were up there quite a few years ago and asked “where they biting?” the guy said “in the lake”

John Odle aka “Rockman” was running it before. I bet it was at least 10 years ago I was last in there & that was the evening of the 1st day of the Wacker tourney.

I went out of there last weekend. Nothing but good experiences. But the last thing I do is ask for advice to a spot they send every one to. We do opposite. Use them for close structure to try and break from the crowd. Maybe thats why she was so nice to me

I called up there acouple weeks ago and spoke to that same lady and she talked my ear off, I just wanted to see if they were letting people walk out and she gave me the life story as to what was going on out there and what the lake guys were finding. I used to go early ice and talk to John and he always treated me good.

The Rockman was one of a kind. I don’t think that falling out ended well. Have not been in there in some time. Sounds like I may have to stop for a burger sometime.

Rocky Reef has always been run by very nice folks for as long as I can remember. The thought of them trying to charge you for info is funny. They also plow super nice roads, often as nice as a 4-lane highway. I’d wonder if this person perhaps followed a side road that was plowed by a private party. I’ve done that plenty of times.

What’s being lost here is that Rocky still charges only $10 for a pass when others have been jacking prices up the last few years.

Unfortunately the Rockman is no longer there. First complaint I have heard about them since the Rockman was kind of pushed out. Hopefully the road issue may just have had something to do with the ice conditions.

In the last few years there roads were plowed to OTHER resort roads and rockman was not to happy with the funny things they were pulling about plowing to other ice roads. He even called them out on social media. every resort I have used in the last 4 to 5 years has charge 10.00 don’t know where your going out of but I have been to beachside hunters red door barnacle and North in garrison all 10.00

With a nickname like that, I’m sure he is! Do you know why they call him that or is it just because he worked at Rocky Reef Resort?

Don’t know where it originated from. Just been called that ever since I have known him…I sure it has something to do with the resort/lake.

The family circus kicked him out. He has no say in any of their operation anymore. Go somewhere else. If they treat family like that do you really think they care about a customer base?

Pretty sure that was his “Handle” on the VHF. Before cell phones there was a lot of VHF radio chatter around the lake. Most resorts and locals on the radio. Rockman, Mudman, Sandman, lot of good handles.

Thought I heard he named himself after the spot he placed his personal fish house. Real shallow up on the rocks on rocky reef.

The neighbor Randy’s Rentals charges $20 I believe. Terry’s is $15. The trend is charging more than $10 nowadays. Takes lots of fuel and tow vehicle repairs to keep those roads up.

I am not certain about winter access, but I know that this past season Hunters Point allowed free access at their private launch. Since Liberty Beach public access was built, people stopped going to Hunters to launch their boat. So they figured that if they allowed free access it might lure some people back for bait or a beer or a burger too.

Next time before ripping them check there page. They said they were not going to clean up there roads till Saturday at the earliest. They have giant 4-6 lane wide roads

X3 but it seems if you want any sort of updated info you have to search the public facebook pages of these outfitters
