Not to say that anyone should not release to the grease, but I support selective harvest as well as keeping the fishery healthy. The big girls are the future, let’s give ’em a chance. By the way, here is the catch I had in October–we kept more than I was comfortable with. We lost a few while boating doubles and threw a few back in, also.

In this case, it was all about repeatability. #5 Flicker Shads 17′ behind the boards and following the same track on the GPS map at 2-2.2 mph swinging the outside boards and letting the inside ones stop. We watched the downwind boards pick up most of the fish.
Normally I just catch a couple of fish and go home. I’m not one to fill the livewell before calling it a day.

Was out there today from 1 till 6, and they were snapping pretty good. Finally got into the plastic bite, with my go-to Rock River favorite putting about a dozen in the boat. We left with 8 eaters tween 15 and 18, eyes and sauger, and lost two at the net, plus a few dinks. Plastic took 90% of the fish. water temps at just under 44. Probably get out there for a bit tomorrow.

well it was alright today. a lot of pressure made the fish more spread out but if you found em they would bite. i ended up with 3 legals and a bunch of shorts on jig/minnow or paddletails which they really hammered. saw z-man and he said he had 5 in the box. everyone is fishing the mouth as there were 20-30 boats in that area.

Thanks for the report Netmann – I remember the days when there were only 3 or 4 boats at the mouth in the fall – Hunting land and jobs are hard to come by these days so everyone fishing I guess

good to meet you, Netman. We boated three more after we left the pack and went to the mouth. Only a few boats left there by then. overall, boated 8 legals for the day, plus lost a few at the net. Nt too many dinks….only 5 or so for the day. no white bass either, which is strange for this tme of year…used to get a bunch of those in the 13 to 15 inch range, but not this year….yet. Off the next two days and fishing with a buddy visiting from NC….Looks like lake MI tomorrow, and probably the Rock on Tuesday and today…time to eat some of them eyes.

diesel, I dropped by there late last week and there is now very little room to sneak past the new bridge abutment in place at the edge of the road. Also, the pier is out and sitting alongside of the ramp partly in the way. I would be prepared with a plan “B” for launching.

Spent a beauty of a day on the Rock yesterday. The fish were pretty cooperative till noon, then shut off when our jinx jumped into the boat to join us for the afternoon. Boated 4 legals, and lost a couple at the net, but the pm just brought in a few 14.99999 ers. Saw Diesel boat a nice 18 incher. All came on plastic, except one on a zip tipped with a minnow head. Lots of boats out…doesn’t anyone work anymore?

Yup, spend a nice half day on the river. Too bad Ed’s jinx helped me launch my boat. Should have never let him touch my rig . Picked up that solid 18 (which was starving by the way). A few hits here and there but not the bit Ed had in the AM. Most boaters I spoke with had one or a bunch of shorts.

Maybe the water warming affected the bite. Who would have thought you could be fishing in a tshirt in November. Don’t worry the cold is coming. Hope to get out a couple more times.

Bob, good to meet you. Thanks for the feedback on Alumacraft. The boss was asking about boats yesterday.

I have to agree that fishing in November in short sleeves is strange. The single Sauger I caught was 16.5″ and hit like a snag and fought like a heavy-weight. Pink/white roundhead jig, 2 1/2″ power minnow with a 1 1/2″ black/white gulp minnow piggybacking it. Caught in the river after I tried the lake trolling bite for about 2 hours. Caught and CPR’d a 27″ pike trolling the Thiebeaux Point rockpile and some white bass near Bingham Bay.

Glad to have finally met Diesel and to hear he was considering an Alumacraft Trophy. If it doesn’t fit in the garage, try a Dominator since it has the same kind of gunnels which give the same sense of security as the Trophy ‘though it is not quite as deep in cockpit depth.

Diesel told me later on Tuesday that the Alumacraft he was talking to was Broadwaybob, as we passed between the two of you heading back up-river. Good to meet you….now I’ll know if we run into each other again. So a white Alumacraft for you and JP, white Lund for Denny (where’s he been?)…..they all look the same I won’t be out till maybe next week, so save some for me, guys.

Those saugers do fight hard. I got a few late last Saturday and they all felt like trophies. I think a dirty old Smoker Craft wins out over a new bright white Alumy anyday. Ask Jeff, since he got that new white boat his production went way down. At least my boat is cheaper to the hole. Anyway, kid’s 3rd birthday this weekend but I’ll be out for trophies next week. Z-man I saw you last weekend but even with my yellow hat I don’t get noticed in the dirty old Smoker. You came in by the mouth around 4 or so near the end of my last drift. I was catching mostly sauger there all afternoon that day. All on 4″ Gulp, out produced everyone else still down there. Most had given up for the day and quit too early. Could have something to do with drift speed and boat control too, some guys just don’t get it.

yeah i saw you at the landing when you were leaving databoy but didnt get a chance to say hi. anyway the walleyes did not cooperate at all today not a one to be had. so we tryed for some crappies in spot we got some a few weeks ago and it was game on after the first cast. all 9-12 inchers with a 13 biggest. kept 15 and caught about 30. my buddy wanted walleyes but he was happy to take 15 crappies home with him since hes been hunting all fall.

Databoy…I thought I saw that hat, but didn’t think anything of it, since it wasn’t the boat I’m used to seeing you in. we stuck it out till dark on saturday, and got three legals pretty quick at about 5 pm, but seems that the bite completely shuts off at dark…..anyone have any luck after dark?? Not me, so I usually pack it up and go home.
Today, put in a full say around the house, mostly yardwork….was drizzling all day, so figured I better get the work done, so I can fish on whatever nice days we have left this year….looks like Turesday may be my next time out….we’ll see.
    Netmann….nice bunch of crappies!

Yup, I mean Tuesday. If things go as planned should be launching at about 8, and fish till dark. I’ll probably start up-river and work my way down. Maybe see you out there.
