Should be a great fall on the Rock River for walleyes. Heading to pool 4 for the first time Friday 9/3 fishing with the Mike Huppert from fin-tech tackle company and his brother Mitch.

Heading to pool 4 for the first time
Just don’t do like I did with Z-man. First outing early fall, one walleye on first cast (Z-man of course) then nothing but sheephead for two days.
Second trip, well let’s just say I shot Z-man a message just yesterday asking “when we going again”
If you are lucky, you will be spoiled.
A Great Fishery
Hope to get out on the Rock this weekend. Been a long time. Spent too much time this year chasing Kings on the big pond.

September 2, 2010 at 2:03 am #897039Summer’s flown by, and going to start spending some time on the Rock in the next few weeks.
Good luck on Pool 4, Jeff….Been nice knowing you;you may not want to come back.September 2, 2010 at 9:30 am #897011Thanks guys – The fall bite should be a early one, it’s a weird year, my father in-law all ready pick a field of corn the end of August. A guy took his picture because they have never seen anyone pick corn in August so early – When I drove by last week I thought something was wrong with it because it was so brown – usally in Sept walking along side the corn field to get to my tree stands the corn is green yet.
September 3, 2010 at 11:13 pm #897435G/L on p-4 Jeff. ’em. Be sure to stop in by Dean for “the latest”. Let us know how you did.
September 4, 2010 at 10:08 pm #897535Fishing sucked for eater walleyes on pool 4 Lake Pepin area – 40 mpr winds and rain. Had fun partying with the Huppert brothers and did out fish both . They wouldn’t take me to Deans. Put in at Bay City and fished the flats and clam beds, caught tons of rough fish and few small walleyes, crappies, white bass and cats.
September 5, 2010 at 6:00 pm #897586High winds can certainly brutalize you up there. Have left a day or two early in previous years, cuz boat control gets darn near impossible at times…..but beats staying home. Hopefully the rough fish gave you a thrill, though, even if just until you got an eyeball on ’em. But I know what your problem was Jeff…….YOU DIDN’T VISIT DEAN!
September 6, 2010 at 12:33 am #897618decided to try my luck trolling after that huge cold front went through. it was a little slow at first but i found a 14 7/8 walleye to bite and about 10 whitebass that wanted some flicker shads. water temp was 65 all over the lake and river. plenty of people out.
Pic 1 is a walleye i got today. pic 2 is a northern i got last trip and pic 3 is a 16 inch walleye
September 9, 2010 at 7:37 pm #898394I wish I could have no luck at all rather than my bad luck. I wasn’t able to fish since walleye league and was looking forward to fall fishing, then wham! Blindsided again! I made it out one day instead of two up north last weekend thanks to my in-law and had a decent day going with smallies until I lost a St. Croix Mojo Bass rod over the side of the boat. I even got a nice 17″er while casting trying to snag my lost rod. Bad luck continued this morning. Here I had planned on fishing the Rock all weekend until I lost my tow vehicle to a drunk driver at 7:45 THIS MORNING!!! I have a feeling this one will cost me big. If it’s totalled I think I only get what it’s worth and I likely owe lots more than that. Keep up the reports so I know what I’ll be missing.
September 9, 2010 at 11:23 pm #898431wow tough break there databoy. you were having a good summer with all those nice fish you got in the league. i will have probably have an open spot for ya sometime this fall. i will let you know. and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
September 10, 2010 at 10:34 am #898487That does suck! I can tow your boat Sunday for you if you want.
September 10, 2010 at 8:18 pm #801955Man Data that sucks, with Bow hunting starting not sure how much ill be fishing ,but if i get out,im sure i can find a spot for ya.And for some comic relief, ill let my 15 yr old daughter come along, she does some wild figure eights trying to steer following the gps when trolling
September 11, 2010 at 11:54 am #898566Databoy – Sorry to hear about all the bad luck.
IDO gang beware now you can see what I went through fishing with Databoy during the spring walleye league. If he didn’t spill my drink or what ever he was tangling in my line or knocking my fish off with the net. Databoy is “bad luck” – “jinks” – so watch out guys and good luck.No serious Greg a.k.a. Databoy my prayers are with you. I’ll give you a call and we can hook up and practice how to have good times.
September 14, 2010 at 12:38 am #898744It sure was nice to be out for the first time in a month and a half, thanks for the lift KV! All those 14″ fish we complained about in the spring grew! No trophies but plenty of 16’s to fill a live-well. I traded in my wife’s car for another tow’er so it’s looks like I saved most of season until I get something back to drive, now if the dang kids wouldn’t have so many Saturday birthday parties I might actually get to fish again. Somebody told me they caught a few crappies too. See you on the water
September 14, 2010 at 11:15 am #898790Hoping for good fall weather, only have about 4 shots through October. Was a nice one Sunday, thanks for the ride databoy. Hope we get out again.
September 14, 2010 at 12:55 pm #898811It’s good to hear we have a good population of eaters out there. Getting the Rock-itch with fall coming….see you guys out there one of these days, soon I hope.
September 18, 2010 at 12:11 pm #899318Out on Kosh from 9:am-3:pm Friday 17th. Spent a lot of time upstream of the bypass launch–not much happening there. Went to the mouth where they were catching a few and then went trolling the lake. Problem was, I took the family out for a ride last week and in my haste, forgot the landing net. That proved to be fatal. I lost two nice 20″ers at the side of the boat trying to hand land them. Both were hooked off of Vinnehaha.
September 18, 2010 at 10:56 pm #899347Hit the Rock Friday afternoon for about 3 hrs., after gill fishing on Waubesa. Jig a couple spots up from the bypass, and finished at the mouth, with only a goat to show for. Called it a day.Water temps were at 67/68.
Only boat I saw when we were leaving at 5:30 or so was Jeff, who got one on his first drift. Good to see you, Jeff. Went home to clean gills.September 19, 2010 at 2:36 pm #899365Was out yesterday from 345 to dark on the lake to give my final lesson on dragging boards to a buddy. He is on his own (since I do better alone than with him) .
A couple boats out at the rock pile and the usual spots. Only got two small white bass. Lake temp 67 to 67.5. Talked to three boats near river front and the mouth. Each claimed to have a couple legals each but the bite was slow.
Was being chased by seagulls and wondered why. One cranks was fouled and on the surface. What is the size limit on seagulls?
Got it away from him just in time.
Another adventure with DC and Larry.
Later
September 19, 2010 at 6:34 pm #899380Diesel, there is no size limit, and boy do they fight! Although. . .it is a little disconcerting to fight them while pulling the tip of your rod downward. The real issue is unhooking them without getting bloody knuckles. Believe me, it’s more excitement than a four-year-old son needs to see his dad have. Been there–done that.
September 24, 2010 at 1:27 pm #900497Looks yummy. If you can’t eat all those just let me know, I usually only get pannies in the winter. I’ll be out looking for fish tomorrow and hopefully Sunday. It seems my wife now put the same rule on fishing that she put on sex, can’t do it two days in a row!
September 25, 2010 at 11:06 pm #900706The good news is, I gambled on a location and salvaged what would have been a bad day with a 19″ walleye. The bad news is I attempted to clean it and it was a bit too lively and made a flop and I got a gill slice to the bone and just got home from the ER with 5 stitches = no more fishing for at least a week. Crappie guys seemed to fair a little better than the walleye guys today. Water temp was still at 64. Thanks for reminding me of my jinx.
September 26, 2010 at 2:26 am #900720decided to try trolling today although i wasnt all that up for but a buddy wanted to go so i said what heck. it turned out to be a good decision. we got 3 saugers and 1 walleye all of which were keepers. a bunch of whitebass. all caught on citrus flicker shads. and a lot of lost fish although i dont know why. water temp was 61

Must be in wife rule book!!
September 27, 2010 at 12:43 am #900897fished blackhawk today. started out at the mouth and in 3 drifts we had 2 keepers, 2 shorts and some sheep head. also saw 3 others caught. then we tried all of the other spots and only came up with sheepshead. all caught on jigs/minnows. then went back trolling and got some whitebass 1 jumbo perch and 2 lost walleyes at the boat. water temp was 61 all over
