Well it’s flooding again. This is the forth time since ice-out. The Rock is 2.5 ft. over flood stage. The flow is usually around 5,000 cfs. and is running just under 36,000 cfs. Lots of garbage floating down river. The Rock down here has just about been unfishable this year. It just so happens as soon as the river starts to clean up, we get another gully washer up north. This has to be the worst I’ve seen the Rock in many years.

There is a plus side to “nearly unfishable” – just think of all those unmolested growing fish coming off another successful spawning season just waiting for you once you can get out!

Hopefully, a fantastic late summer and fall bite will help make up for you guys!

I was thinking that some of the guys would be glad to get the fish kill area restocked.

When was the last time you saw someone wade the lower Rock at Steel Dam or Milan Bridges Two years??

It’s been a few years since I’ve seen anyone wading at either location. It was around 6 or 7 years ago when I put up a picture of the Rock at Milan and you could walk across it without getting your feet wet. Go figure.

As of yesterday the county of Rock Island closed the Rock to all boat traffic. The reason is a very strong current and a dangerous amount of debris. At no surprise to me. I saw a few boats out there today. Just goes to show that you don’t have to be literate to own a boat.

Rock River has crested at Rockton and is dropping fast. I hope to be fishing tonight on the bank. Catfish are biting but its challenging to keep line clean…. When are we going to see the river flow brought on by dog days of summer?
