Wake up out there, Wefish, databoy and to the rest of the IDO gang where’s the ice fishing reports and pictures? I need something to get me pumped up, all I’ve been doing is dreaming about open water in my boat, just can’t get it out of my head, anyone else having that problem, maybe I should seek help.

    I hear ya Jeff!

I’ve got two projects taking up the majority of my time and helping me cure my itch to get out in a boat again.

One is painting spoons for salmon fishing.
The other is compiling walleye & sauger fishing creel data from the past four years on Lake Wisconsin.

Doesn’t really cure the itch to get out in a boat but it does seem to make winter pass a little quicker.

Hi Jeff and Joel you guys sound like you have the cabin blues. One way to get rid of them is to go to the dells, Botch has the landing cleared and boats were in the water last week. Take care guys and might see you there.

Ice fishing… well I’ve been skunked on Kosh a few times with tipups though I had a nice fish hooked that broke me off otherwise it’s been too cold or windy. I don’t use a shack and heater and prefer to stay more mobile and the conditions haven’t been right to do that. Maybe late ice, though I’d rather see that go away too so I can help you launch that boat again. Maybe you should seek help I still haven’t made my winter-spring run to Bass Pro Shop or Cabalas yet though I’ve been spending a lot more on line lately. I’ve been learning it’s lots cheaper to just make favorites for the stuff I like rather than buying everything as soon as I find it.

It might be a little bit of a drive for you guys BUT the ramps are always open down at Everts and the winter bite is sometimes unbeatable. Just an option to cure your open water blues

I would love to drive to Evert’s and spend a weekend fishing on pool 4. Sure would cure my open water blues!

The dells is another very good option but after talking with the boss this morning, that doesn’t look to likely either. Aside from playing with fishing lures and compiling creel data, I now need to put in some serious time hitting the books in preparation for an exam in order to secure a full time job with the State. (a job I desire greatly)

Fishing may have to wait a little while longer for now.
I’ll settle for reading reports from you guys to get by.

Happy Ground Hog Eve. Hoping for a cloudy day and an early spring. Always wanted to do a winter dip in the Miss or the Wisc River. Scared I’d suck water in the lower unit and bust it when it freezes. From the ice reports I’ve read on Kosh looks like lots of small eyes and big northerns. I might have nightmares of gators biting off my eyes when reeling them in.

That’s a nice locator/GPS riverbank, you’re going to love it. I’m always in a hurry to fish and should use my electronics more – you’ll learn alot and be very happy with your purchase.

Wefish I’m sorry you feel that way, it’s really not about the show why I go it’s about meeting up with friends and having fun at least that’s why I go, once in a while you find something you like to buy is a plus. What else is there to do for $8 this time of year, well if you add gas and beer and food, $50 still a great price I feel than being a couch potato.

    No couch potato here,
I have been out just about every weekend ice fishing. If I had My choice I would be ice fishing and open water fishing every day and in three more years, all day, every day.

hey i here ya on the ice fishing every weekend part plus if we could just have some place like pool 4 somewhere closer that is open during the winter that would be awesome. those walleyes dont stand a chance now that i drive my dads old truck. but yet again neither do any of those other fish either.

I do not get in the Fort area much. When does the 106 launch pier usually go in? Is it a long no wake area from there to the lake?

i’ve never launched at 106 but i know it would be quite a run down river. usually in the spring the no wake is on almost immediatly after ice out. if you launch at the bypass its not to bad to go up or down river to get to the spots.

Really got the itch today. Had to go to janesville for work, and took the country route via Newville. Open water, fellas, way upriver and as far down as i could see. Pulled into Anchor Inn to check out the launch. It’s been plowed, but there’s a small mound of snow at water’s edge….maybe 2 feet tall…could easily be pushed in if you’re inclined to launch. Got so excited, called Diesel to see if he’s up for a trip in my 12 ft. winter boat….maybe soon.

Sorry Jeff, but I kind of agree with WeFish. I was not at all impressed with the expo either. I’d rather take my $14 and get together with my fishing buddies for lunch and a beer. And, they don’t have beer at the expo. You also can’t buy the products anymore. I could go to Gander or Cabelas and see the stuff and actually buy it and not pay to go in or park. Plus, it’s always the last weekend of the fishing season so if it’s nice I’d rather actually be fishing than thinking about fishing. And you know, we’re going to get that thaw and we should be fishing on the river by the end of the month!

WOW you agree with wefish, that’s rare but I hate to tell you, I know it don’t matter, but they do sell beer there and product, fin-tech has two vendors selling jigs this year, Dick Smiths and Dorns I’m really supprise your not coming because of your kids, the expo target kids, plus fin-tech always gives me a few free hand outs for kids like fin-tech hats and jigs, oh well the hand outs that I planned to give to your kids will have to go to some other nice kid well, just go fishing with wefish and please post your report here on IDO so we can see what we missed.

Jeff…just don’t give that stuff to my kid…give it to me. We have a competition on who can mooch the most stuff, and you’re gonna tilt the scale in his favor with those nice handouts. see ya at the show, most likely Friday night.

Ok, you’re a good pitchman, I heard there’s a spot open on TV. I’ve only been there twice and must have hit an off year. Anyway, it’s good to see you’re interested in fishing again. It seemed you had an off year last year and I was afraid you were going to give it up for awhile. Hopefully we’ll put the fear back into those big eyes again soon! If I’m not up north I’ll see you at the expo with my kids. You can watch my 2 year old while I look around and I’ll report back to you after a couple of hours.

Well good, then I’ll buy the beer and we can talk strategy and I will share some of my secrets on catching walleyes on the mighty Rock River. Thinking about doing the Thurday night tournament deal this summer.

Most likely be working the SE WI Hunting & Fishing show on Friday March 5 from 2 to 8 and Saturday March 6th from 10 to 4, but right now the Madison show and State wrestling tourney is on my mine and Sam Huppert.

Sam Huppert is Mike Huppert son from Fin-tech tackle Co. and is a awesome wrestler which has went to state the last two years and this year he’s a senior and is rated #1 at 119, but he has picked up a bug and can’t wrestle this weekend and if he don’t get better he might not go to state and that would be heart breaking so prayers are needed.

Wefish that’s great that you and JoAnn will be fishing the Thursday night Anchor Inn tourney. It’d sucks for me and databoy because now we have to find a new sub for when I’m gone to Eagle River this year end of May.
