Yes just like I thought May was a great month but June should be better. Water should start going into the low stage and start looking a little cleaner. Good luck and be safe. Just do what you have to do don’t worry about others.

June 4, 2009 at 8:38 pm #781505Thinking about heading to the Rock tomorrow. Read or heard that the pier at bypass was removed?? Howz the water level….still high?
June 4, 2009 at 8:40 pm #781506Just posted the previous questions at 7:40 am, but time on post says 3:38 pm…what’s up with that??
June 6, 2009 at 10:26 am #782010Out today with my son and his buddy. launched at bypass, and headed towards the mouth. Very windy with white-caps blowing into the river, and pushing us up-river, so had to use bowmount to make way downriver vertical jigging. Also fished up from bypass to end the day at 4 pm. Only 4 undersize eyes, a few white bass,3 goats, and a 12 inch muskie. I’m really tired of this wind…..seems like it’s kicked up on a majority of my days on the water this year. water level is dropping, but still SNW sign at launch.
June 6, 2009 at 10:35 am #782012hit the downtown area tonight, was a bit slower tonight for whites, flys still working.get alot of glares from the out of towners as i let each one go all the time
June 7, 2009 at 12:07 am #782068trolled for awhile last night between Carcajou and Thiebeau points and hooked a good sized walleye. Got thinking about putting my first fish in the new boat, took my eye off the ball, and lost it at the boat. Three tremendous head shakes and it was gone. Oh, well, I wouldn’t have kept it for more than a picture and then released it, anyway. Beautiful night to be out.
June 13, 2009 at 1:24 am #783689yeah it has been pretty tough lately between Tuesday and the anchor tourney last night we only boated 2 shorts and some white bass. 1 boat had about 13 pounds last night to win it and only a couple other legals were caught. nice to finally meet you last night Greg and nice to see you again wefish. we still had a fun time although the fish weren’t cooperating
June 13, 2009 at 7:14 pm #783833Ditto, hope to see you again out there. Good luck to all you at the tourney today!
June 14, 2009 at 1:34 am #783831Heading out in a couple hours. Not fishing the tourney but all the same. See you on the water.
Diesel
June 14, 2009 at 8:34 am #783918Hey Diesel, sorry I didn’t stop and chat but I had my in-law and nephew and needed to get home to grill burgers. The bite seemed to be just picking up about a half hour before you got there. I hope it continued after we left, I had a couple nice ones that the tourney guys left behind. Florocarbon line seemed to be the key in our boat, I had twice as many bites as the Fireline users. For now on lower water and I switch to 6# P-Line.
I’m waiting to hear tourney results, I know the red Lund that was the last to leave took home 2 nice fish like mine all caught right at the power line.
June 14, 2009 at 10:23 am #783925I have been using 6# p-line all spring. ( good stuff !! )What size rods are you guys using? I’ve used 5′ 6″ light rods to 7′ rods.
June 14, 2009 at 11:11 am #783929I have been useing #4 pound CXX P-Line for several years now on all My reels ( Shimano Symetre 750FI ) and ST. CROIX Premier 5’6″ Lite Power Fast Action rods for pan fishing. On the river I use 6′ ST. CROIX Premier with #4 pound test fire line.
Hey Gregg got into a nice bag of gills at Ripley Friday and of course Joann had a blast catching some nice bass and a few smallies. We also noticed that the Carp population is on the rise and there are some big ones We saw school of a dozen or more.WeFish
June 14, 2009 at 11:32 am #783932I thought that was you Greg. I gave the river a couple of drifts and headed out drag some lines. Started off the rock pile an seeing no one on it I figured there were off the rocks. One pass for nothing and headed to deeper water. Got one small walleye pretty quick and then the assault of white bass and sheephead began. They kept me busy but was not the target. Caught about 15 whites and sheepie. Also caught about 4 more small eyes between the points. Stayed with whites as I figured wallys got to be around some where. When I lost the bass could not find an eye.
All fish caught on shad rap in shad or black and sliver. Opp forgot the 20 inch walleye. This was interesting. Had a nice walleye on the black and silver shad rap but it came unbuttoned at the boat. So I continued the troll and backtracked on the same GPs trail. Bam fish on about where I lost the other. Now this may not be the same fish but it sure hit the fire tiger shad rap with a vengence and I am not complaining.
Overall fishing was not fast and furious be enough action to keep you interested. Speed was 1.6 to 1.8 GPS. Water temp on the lake 78 but cooled to 73 as the sun went down.

June 15, 2009 at 4:17 am #783981I have the 6’3″ St. Croix Avid ML Extra Fast, seems a couple of my partners like the 6’9″ rods but the shorter ones fit my little boat better and travel better when I’m the co-angler guest.
Nothing but sheep and whitebass for me this morning.
June 15, 2009 at 7:12 am #783998hey what size jigs have you guys been using? we’ve been using 3/16 and 1/4 ounce. are you guys still using minnows or crawlers? i’ve been using both but not many fish coming in lately either. i’ve been using a gander pro select 7′ and a 6’6″ pinnacle but hopefully next spring i will be able to get a 6’9″ avid
June 15, 2009 at 8:27 am #784059Mostly crawlers for me on a 1/8 oz. jig. Yellow has been the best lately but it’s been a hit and miss bite. Seems there’s a narrow biting window if you stick it out and are lucky to be there when they want to eat. It takes lots of patience from now until fall (or real cold beer).
June 15, 2009 at 5:39 pm #784116Guys it’s not 6’9″ it’s 6’6″ Med avid. Main reasons then I can vertical jig, pitch jigs, drag jigs or cast cranks or lures, this rod does it all.
June 21, 2009 at 5:37 pm #785501are the fish still biting up there? how’d the league go on Thursday? we weren’t able to make it but we’ll be there this week. anyways made it out a bunch of times this past couple weeks from shore and in the boat been able to catch a bunch of nice channels and found a few smallies
June 23, 2009 at 3:51 am #785889Two more Thursday nights tourneys left hope to see you guys there. Fishing has been tough in the river but if you work for them they will come.
June 26, 2009 at 4:27 pm #786839Will be out tomorrow afternoon to join the circus on the lake if the weather and wind holds. Gotta newbie that want’s me to teach him how to drag boards.
( :) Ain’t that funny.BCNU
