It has been a long cold winter and I am definately ready for the open water scene. Its warmer, easier to fish and the girls wear skimpy cloths . So all I can say is BRING IT ON

    Guys,
Heads up on the river, the waters really flowing, and up and over the wall. I’m sure the no wake rule will be inforced soon if not already. There’s an awful lot of debris coming down and I’m sure we’ll have some maneuvering difficulty. I plan on keeping the boat dry dock for awhile.

WOW, this weekend was crazy on the river. I couldn’t believe how packed the river was. Remember anglers “NO WAKE” is on. Didn’t hear if they were catching fish. Anyone else hear anything?

Well first day on the water this year turned out to be nothing short of impressive!! Went out Sunday morning on the Illinois side of the Rock and it was amazing the pigs stuck up in the timber. Fished most of Rockton Spillway south to Rockton Dam hiting slack water eddies. Managed to catch 2,27’s 4 24’s, ,3 19’s , and too numerous to count smaller fish. Today’s biat was Chartruese Nuckleball tipped with a chartruse /pepper ringworm, and a Bfishn Chartruese hair jig tipped with a orange chartruese twistertail. Spent most of the day pitchin and vertical jigging. Shallow water was the key in the morning and evening and just outside of the timber during the day. By far the best day I have had in a lot of years. Her is a couple pics of the ones I kept. the fillet board is 24 inches long for reference. All females were released.

    Hi Fellas,
Long time, no talk. Fished the fox up in depere yesterday. Caught a lot of nice fish. Might get out on the rock this weekend. Looking to put a couple eaters in the boat. What boat did you get this time Jeff? Sorry to hear about your fellow co-worker a few weeks back. I remember seeing that on the news. See you guys on the water.

    Hi lunmann23,
Gettting another alumacraft. Lots of boats on the water around here and NO Wake they say is on some say it isn’t. I would call Jefferson County before hitting the water. Fishing should be warming up.

I added to the conjestion on the river and launched at the bypass by 11 AM today and went upriver. After doing some scanning with my new Humminbird 798ci Si side imaging sonar which showed some fish. I didn’t believe it and fished up river of the fish for an hour or so out of the wind and in the current without much luck. I finally moved down to where the sonar showed fish which was in the wind but out of the current and boated a 17 (milting male) at 12:30. That was on a crawler. Another 18 on a crawler, then a 21.5″ female on a minnow. Ended with another 19″ male on a crawler. I stayed tight to the wood in 6-7′ of water. Once the wind died down and the chop disappeared on the water the bite ended for me. Had to quit after 4 hours because I didn’t plug all the holes from the old sonar and I was taking on too much water and clogging the bilge pump but I got off before the launch turned into too much of a zoo.

well my dad and i made it out yesterday to play bumper boats from 6am to dark. we caught around 30 walleye/sauger with 2 nice fat 19 females which were released along with 6 legals form 15-17 inches and all males. caught a bunch of fish using the new goldcraker paddle tails which worked awesome. otherwise it was a jig w/chart twister or green/orange twister and minnow vertical jigged. only caught a couple small ones vertical jigging plastics. we fished from the bend bf4 the mouth all the way up to the vfw and every where in between water temp was 40-43

Hi Netmann14, Great catch I was out yesterday with my son. I counted like 60 boats at one time out there. We caught a bunch that were 13 to 14 inch. We did get a couple of nice keepers too. I don’t think I have seen the goldcraker paddle tails. Who makes them? We got ours on mainly 3/8 knuckle ball jig heads tipped with a minnow. Good fishing to all ………Denny

Well i decided to fish today. Caught enough to keep me busy. 2 legals that i decided to let go because i didn’t want to clean them. Fished from 26 up to stink pipe. Wind was horrible, made boat positioning tough. Oh well, better than working.

Nice catch Netmann14, Thanks for the report and pic’s. It sure was a nice weekend to be out. Most boat traffic I’ve ever seen. Just goes to show you how great this fishery is. We need all those anglers to join IDO.
