I actually read that there was some open water in Georgia. You might wanna check it out!
January 8, 2009 at 8:11 pm #735402Yup, but it’s on the river the movie Deliverance was filmed on, and I’m not that desperate yet….
January 11, 2009 at 12:10 pm #736033tried couple hours on Kosh yesterday with no luck. God I need a power auger
January 11, 2009 at 2:26 pm #736067jeff,what size auger do you have?i bought an adaptor so i use my 18v battery drill,works awesome,carry a spare pack,can get 25 holes no prob.i have it on my 6in auger.adaptor was 20.00.
January 11, 2009 at 4:40 pm #736109That’s not a bad report, hopefully there’ll still be a few fish left for open water. I’ve barely been on the ice this winter and decided to wait for some better weather with less wind. If one of those days ever happens on a weekend it’d be nice to get the gang together somewhere. I may try a private pond this afternoon that flooded over so it’ll be interesting to see if any fish stayed in it.
January 11, 2009 at 6:02 pm #736123I also have a 6 and 8″

January 11, 2009 at 8:21 pm #735646mud lake in madison is giving up some nice gills. but its kinda of a finicky bite and some just swim by. as my dad and i were up there on saturday 1/10 and we got 29 keepers with a bunch of keepers released. teardrop jig did the most damage with a ratfinkee coming in second.
January 11, 2009 at 8:34 pm #735618Nice fish Thanks for the report. Little walking to get there how does the legs feel?
January 11, 2009 at 9:43 pm #730258Coudn’t get out of the chair to fight the cold on the ice. Should have trusted the snowsuit
January 11, 2009 at 11:16 pm #736142actually we took the wheeler this time. theres not a ton of snow out there either.
January 26, 2009 at 12:25 am #741249I finally made it out on the big K today with my 6 year old son and we had a blast though we didn’t catch any fish. We started at 12:30, hooked a large northern at 2 on a large shiner but broke off because we set up with 8# mono for walleyes and had another flag up at 4 that stole our fathead when I attempted to set the hook. It was a nice day with no wind and we wish we would have tried it weeks ago. The little guy can’t wait to get out again, his biggest disappointment was having to leave so we’ll have to try it again ASAP – maybe we’ll see you out there.
January 26, 2009 at 1:21 am #741261spent fri and sat in racine, fri. was 3 1/2 hrs of class info, sat. over 8 hrs on the ice, fishing racine harbor browns, iced two browns, and will be doing alot more brown trout fishing this yr.eric haataja put on a great seminar/outing.any of you guys want to head down there sometime, let me know
January 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm #741378Trout fishing sounds like fun. My only problem is I didn’t buy a trout stamp and never took a knife to a trout so I wouldn’t know how to prepare a catch for the table. I do recall having some tasty smoked fish from my wife’s uncle a few years ago though. I guess I should have been at Eric’s seminar too.

Thought about taking the class too but had other commitments. You can see why so many fish the browns and other trout in the late winter/early spring. I can’t wait.
One day I will do the harbor ice fishing here in MKE.
