If you like fishing for Northerns, they are biting quite well in the river south of Fort.
I heard a northern bite is on too. My dad is the gossip king and the northern fishing has been hot at the creek inlets. 38″ fish caught in 8″ of water! Good size reports and numbers per little time of effort. …or are they all just fish stories?
Wow,Jeff
All I said was Patten’s Marina next time I’ll just give GPS coordinates. Also fishing has been good up the barkriver you’d be surprized where a War Eagle / Go Devil can take you.
I tried out my new trolling motor for an hour or so yesterday afternoon in the heat. Caught one white bass well over a pound and lost a 20+” walleye at the boat because I wasn’t expecting to catch anything and didn’t bring the net. The walleye was near one of my favorite creek inlets. I knew I wouldn’t be out long so I used fake bait instead of crawlers – Berkley Gulp! 3″ smelt minnows on red/black 1/4 oz. Fin-tech Knuckle Ball jig. Jeff, did you do any good? I saw quite a few other white bass caught by those targeting them.
Been a long time since I have posted. Took the new boat(a 2007 Alumacraft Trophy 175 powered by a 115 Etec) out to see if I could get the first legal fish in the livewell. Had success at around 11:30 from the hole between the bridges. One 16″ walleye on a chartruse slowpoke jig and half a Gulp! crawler. Otherwise, not much else. Saw some awesome catches of channel cats caught on Sonny’s.
Bob good to see you back on IDA. Great choice on the boat
Gregg that’s a awesome fish.
OK all you walleye gurus. So with all this rain, and rising river levels, do you think the walleye might be tricked back to the river in good numbers, thinking it’s spring again? (aside from the warm water temps). With September just around the corner, I’m hoping to start testing the waters again, and seeing for myself, but in the meantime, anyone been out fishing?
Would love to be on the river since I finally got the rig running but now I can’t get it out of the yard.
Someone make the rain stop!!!
I’m pretty sure I saw a white Alumacraft Trophy 185 with An E-TEC on the transom out on Koshkonong today. At the time I had 3 13″ to 14″ white bass in the livewell. Tried trolling the rockpile for walleye and had to keep pulling 4″ to 5″ white bass of my #5 and #7 shadraps. At the launch we all agreed that the white bass were very aggressive.
Slow-no-wake on the river makes going upstream a real challenge. Listened to WCLO talk radio and the landowners are keeping the authorities well informed of the boats making wakes going upstream.
Launch at Charlie Bluff is ugly–no decking on the pier and still $5 to launch.
Tuesday night, I can t wait that long! I was up north and missed the weekend fun and wondering what I missed. The report better be a good one or we will all have to give you some refresher lessons on how to catch fish again At least with the high water you will have to give up your pleasure boating and get back to fishing. I m looking forward to a long Labor Day Weekend and hope to have a good report of my own. No wake = no extra holiday weekend boat traffic! Anyone else planning on being out?
Going out somewhere, haven\\\’t decided where and with whom. My neighbor got a 17foot smokercraft and he wants to learn a little more about some local lakes so he asked me to fish a little with him. Got the rig ready though and found a little less than a half gallon of water in my fuel tank . And oh yes the gas tank was filled from the gas station and I know what was left in my tank was all gas.
That station lost my business.
I hope Jeff has some good news as I have been itching to get back to the rock for some more beatings
Data, I\\\’ll be out there–hope you are right about the traffic. I\\\’d like to catch more than white bass next time out. You\\\’ll find me in the alterego of Jeff\\\’s boat–black Alumacraft Trophy with the blue/black E-TEC on the transom. Hope they get this \\\\\\\’\\\\\\\’\\\\\\\’ problem worked out. I see databoy worked around it by skipping the apostrophy.
Havent had time to do the report because Im fishing to much. Fish are biting thats all I can say. Soon as things slow down Ill give you guys the report. Heres just a taste, nothing big just all good eaters. Soon as it rains Ill do the report.
Just as I thought. I figured no news was good news. Good job Jeff! I also figured that because I had no time to get out I was missing the bite. Can t wait until Friday!!!
WOW the fish must be jumping into Jeff”s boat?????
Quiet, too too quiet.
I may have to get out there this weekend
Fished from noon to 8 PM. Couldn’t find where the bait shop moved to so I was stuck using the new Gulp! Alive! 3″ minnows which worked out ok. Caught one northern, one 2 lb. catfish, a couple walleyes and lots of white bass. The northern and biggest walleye were an inch short and caught up river from the boat landing. The white bass all were down by the mouth. Saw the master out and he had his limit in less time than it took me to not get mine. I’ll be back at it tomorrow. Had most of the river to myself today which was nice.
Tried it again this morning from 8 until noon but stuck close to the boat landing and fished in the walleye nursery. Caught 3 of them ranging from 4 to 14″ along with one sheep and 2 big cats. Used crawlers today but had a hard time keeping them on the hook with all the little eyes. Andy, it was a real pleasure meeting you and your wife, hopefully we can meet up again.
Took a friend from work this morning and caught walleyes from range 16 to 19 inches and some shorts. Good to see the eyes starting to bite.
