After filling my belly on fresh grilled walleye I tried it again from shore between 7 and 8 PM. I got one white bass and three walleye. All are still swimming this time. White bass and first two walleyes were caught on a 1/4 ounce chartreuse Lindy jig and 4″ grub then I ran out of jigs. The last walleye hit a Rapala Husky Jerk in the perch color.

April 22, 2007 at 11:57 am #563319Diesel I would have to say your one hell of a determined angler to keep fishing the rock with so many wounds.
April 23, 2007 at 1:34 pm #563536Determination/stupidity? You make the call. My wife has already provided her opinion .
Naw, this trip was more of a conditions scouting run and to give the boat the spring shake down after the new livewell bump, hoses, miscellanous electrical work.
Since I have limited time out I do what I can. Looking forward to the inland lakes as I did pretty well last year.
Should have brought the stinkbait though

April 23, 2007 at 1:47 pm #563540You’re a die-hard, just like the rest of us. Glad to see that the evil squirrel didn’t out-do you, and that the boat is up and running.
Here’s a couple shots of Blackhawk area near Riverview Tavern launch, from a week ago Sunday drive. Has it gone down any?April 23, 2007 at 2:56 pm #563568Yes the water is off the road but some areas about a foot away from the road. Bring rubber boots if you go out. My rear tires were well in the water before my boat floated off. Nice guys at the ramp helped me out since I was alone.
Some folks still want to run up the river full throttle and swamping the homes on the shore.
April 23, 2007 at 3:02 pm #563571For those who are interested. This is what I was battling all winter. These pictures are the third pine cone stash the little SOB added to the boat. I cleaned this one up and then in two weeks he filled up my battery storage.
My wife keeps hearing the theme from caddy shack everytime I get wound up about the red squirrel.
April 23, 2007 at 3:04 pm #563574This load was only about 2 five gallon buckets.
The one in the battery storage was 4 buckets!!!!!!!!!
April 23, 2007 at 3:22 pm #558502I’ve been meaning to buy more Nuckle Balls for about a year now. It’s too bad there’s not a place in Fort anymore that carries them. I only have a couple left so I’m saving them for jigging. I do prefer them when fishing out of a boat, but from shore I like the Lindy Max Gap and bend the hooks down to prevent snagging. They’re the closest jig I’ve found to the Fin-tech’s – kind of a cross between the Nuckle Ball and the Zone-R. There’s lots of rocks in my spot and that turned out hook tends to hang up and I don’t have the heart to bend those high quality jigs.
Report: just a half hour yesterday from shore between 7-7:30 PM and one walleye close to 15″ that I released. My personal weekend results – 9 walleyes and a white bass for 4 hours effort.
April 23, 2007 at 3:33 pm #563583Diesel, I have a couple suggestions… a .22 or leave the boat with me, there’s no trees here A live trap works for my dad but then you need the time to drive those little rascals to the country-side somewhere.
April 23, 2007 at 4:21 pm #563617Hmm, hey Jeff that link you sent to http://www.jigfish.com got me thinking that maybe I should try those Nuckle Ball jigs again but rig them weedless instead of with the exposed hook when casting from shore. Does that work for any of you guys?
Has anyone tried the Title Shot jig for bass in any of the lakes? I gave it a short trial last year but so far it’s not a confidence jig for me. I’ve been having a hard time finding a plastic I like for it though I’ve only tried a couple. Most recent I used a skirt with a Yum Craw which tends to pull off the jig going through weeds.
April 23, 2007 at 10:27 pm #563751Weedless will work. As far as the title shot there a confidence jig for me. My boat comes Friday so it should be ready next week sometime and databoy your the first that’s get a tour.
April 24, 2007 at 1:26 pm #563933Jeff, that sounds great. I bet you can’t wait to get back out on the water, it must have been a long month for you waiting for the tub. I’m sure you have all your chores done by now and your wife is anxious to have the house to herself for awhile I pulled a Diesellast night and was skunked for the first time in over a week shore fishing from 7-8 PM. The water has really dropped the last couple of days. I didn’t get into downtown but the top of the wall must be out of the water by now.
April 24, 2007 at 2:27 pm #563964OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
So that is what it is called “pulling a Diesel”
April 24, 2007 at 3:28 pm #563989Diesel…..I feel for you, but it was inevitable that your handle would become synonymous with skunked. You gotta start telling some fish stories to change that reputation, or do something to get that karma going the right way. As far as I’m concerned, I’d much rather go out and get “Dieseled” than being stuck working at home or the office.
April 24, 2007 at 10:54 pm #564202Got me there but you didn’t need to remind me I’ll be back to my old form soon too.
April 26, 2007 at 2:11 am #564877Fished yesterday in the rain for about three hours. Tried it by the Bark with nothing doing. Went over along the 106 wall and same results. Water is just at the wall now. Current was slow by the Bark, but still moving pretty fast along the wall.
April 28, 2007 at 1:01 am #565728Just one white bass for my hour standing by the river this evening. Good luck to anyone venturing out this weekend!
April 29, 2007 at 8:23 pm #565984Well, fellas, finally had the chance to get the priorities straight yesterday, and hit my favorite stretch of the Rock for this time of year….Newville. Launched at the Anchor at 3 pm, and spent the first couple hours doing long drifts, slipping the current, between 59 birdge, and well past I-90, trying to find a hungry school. All we found were a few hungry small white bass, and a couple eyes by this method. decided to take a break from the wind, and anchored in a couple spots down from I-90, to pitch current seams, and drown fatheads on river rigs. Nada. so to end the day, we started exploring current breaks around bridge piers, and started catching some eyes. Ended up boating about 2 dozen eyes, with 3 legals in the mix, all between 15 and 16 inches (and they were good,…just finished dinner). At least half the eyes were 14.999inches, and some still milting. No hits on plastic today, and jig/fathead was bait of choice, with very slow roll/retrieve.
April 30, 2007 at 2:11 am #566070The Wife and I put the boat in at K-Mart 6:00AM fished till 11:30AM tryed deep water east of the Bark and Rock, then the VFW, ended up east of the 26 bridge on the south side finally found them had a blast many just at the 15″ mark but managed to catch a few 16 1/2 inchers for the grill. Bait used Zone R pink/white and green/glow tipped with a fat head.
