Originally planned to go solo on the big Pond today, but the wind forecast changed my mind, so thought I’d work on the jigging a little, figuring it might be early, but what the heck. And it was slow. Launched at blackhawk at 6:30 am, and hit the usual haunts from the VFW down to Kosh, and got one 13 inch eye….but there was hope….Jeff called my cell, and jumped in the boat with me at 10:30. So with a fresh attitude and some new enthusiasm joining me, we set out to try areas I had not yet hit, and after 2 hours of jigging into the wood, pitching into the wood, and jigging the break, we cried uncle ….but better things are yet to come with fall weather. Water temps today were 64 degrees, and according to jeff, level was up 2 feet from just last Sunday, so that didn’t help matters any.

The wind was a little stronger than expected for me too. I was also a little surprised to see current again. In the end, nothing but sheep for me. I hope it won’t be long though, I’m having my third shoulder surgery sometime in November.

Well, hold off on that surgery till the very end. Last November brought some nice eyes and numbers to my boat, including a 27 incher that’s still swimming. I looked at my fishing log this weekend, and saw that the Rock and local lakes were frozen over by Thanksgiving last year due to an early and prolonged cold snap. So I never made it out after that…but previous years were different..fished into December, and even early January once with Jeff . Helps make for a shorter winter. good luck with the surgery.

It is about time there is a post on the Rock River. Been too quiet. I was in St. Louis dreaming of fishing last week so I hope to convince the wife it it time to get out.

At least you got out and had a Jeff sighting. I heard the same about the water being up.

    Hope to get out soon.

Thanks Z. I hope not to be sidelined too long. At least jigging is easier than casting – that just takes one good arm. I should be able to at least move my wrist enough to reel in those big ones. I learned my lesson last year about putting the boat away too early and may just keep it home and leave the car out this winter. After that early ice melted I could only helplessly look at that wide open river early in the year wishing I could be out. I should keep a log myself, the old noodle isn’t as sharp as it used to be at remembering the whens and wheres. The way the Pack have looked on TV it looks like I don’t have to waste any more Sundays on the couch and might as well be on the water.

Derek…can’t say that I’d rush out to the Rock, but then you never know. You might be the one out there when they turn on, and can let the rest of us know. By the time I can get the boat back in the water in two weeks, it may be time. Good luck if you go…..we still gotta try to get out for a few salmon/trout for the winter, hey?

Cold front tonight into tommorrow should start the transition for Kosh. Just starting to get nice eyes below the stateline in Rockton, Illinois. Wading every evening and morning has been productive. Seen some nice 24 to 26 inch females in the evening.Smaller males and nice saugers, too. Cant wait till the water drops below 60. It is holding aroung 64 last few days. Cold snap oughta help hit the mark. I’ll be up to kosh in three days.

Whats up with the sudden water level change. Lower Rock has risen quickly in last 3 days.

THEY HAVE BEEN SHUTTING THE GATES IN BELOIT AND FARTHER SOUTH.
IN ROCKTON THE SPILLWAY BEHIND THE CEMETARY HAS BEEN REALLY HIGH FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.( WHICH IS REALLY GOOD FOR EYES)

WATER TEMP DOWN TO 59 DEGREES THIS MORNING

Is that crappy landing in South Beloit the only one to be able to get to dam in Beloit? You need a military 6 wheeler to get boat in and out there.
