I saw this thread has been quiet for awhile so I decided to try the Rock again myself for the first time since spring. Motored up river to the VFW from the 26 bybass and started a drift Saturday morning about 8:30. Picked up 2 13-14″ walleyes in 6-8 fow on a 1/4 oz green/char Lindy Max Gap jig and a 3″ Berkley Gulp shad minnow. Second drift resulted in another the same size and a sheephead. No bites in any water deeper than 8 feet. It seemed better in the wind swept stretches too. A couple other swing and misses and I called it quits by 11 am. That’s typical action on the Rock for me which was satisfying enough, not great but not a 0.

Att-a-boy, Databoy. Good to see a report for this stretch. Been thinking about giving it a try recently too, but opted to hit the Big Pond and Delevan instead. Just not enough time to do ’em all. How were the water levels/flow?
July 11, 2006 at 4:53 pm #459562The water levels were moderate as was the current. Certainly not high but not too low to worry about props. I only made it to the Rock because I couldn’t find parking on Ripley and already wasted the best part of the morning but I’m glad I chose the Rock after all. Its nice not getting everything plugged up with weeds sometimes too. I wonder if I would have done better on crawlers or leeches though it’s hard to change when you’re getting bit. I was solo too so just had one line. Wind was kind of strong to try 2 rods and control the troller. Oh wise one, you out there? Any words of advice? Oops, wrong way.
July 13, 2006 at 1:18 pm #460283I was out Sunday and fished from power lines to month, well may be it was the other way around, month to power lines . The wind was so bad it blew me up river to the power lines so I let mother nature do all the work and I just sat back and watch my pole bend over and pulled in fish. Leeches and crawler worked for me with a little Kickin Walleye for scent. Pink/white and glow/green 1/8oz nuckleball jigs worked best for me.
July 13, 2006 at 7:06 pm #460421I thought I saw you out there Sunday, unfortunately I was in my truck and not the boat just taking my 3 yr. old out for a drive to the island and back. I think I’ll try it again bright and early Saturday and if it goes well maybe Monday and Tuesday since I took a couple days off. Kickin Walleye scent, where did you find that? Though I doubt it’d add anything to the stench of the Gulp. I was thinking about downsizing my jig to 1/8 oz. too but Saturday was also windy and blowing me upstream. The current appeared strong enough though to pull the 1/4 oz. jig downstream so I used the troller against the wind and went downstream too. Never tried going up. I also thought I’d be a little more wind and big boat protected staying away from the mouth. I wanted to make sure I saved a couple fish down there for you
July 18, 2006 at 12:40 pm #461320I was wondering where everyone has been. With gas prices I am staying more local. So the fish on the rock should be nice and hungry since I am not feeding them this summer

July 20, 2006 at 1:13 pm #461994Tried it a little Sunday morning, but not much biting. Did see Jeff leaving while I was pulling in so he must have caught ’em all before I got out. Followed the Outdoor Experience Guide boat around, actually they were following me but didn’t see much in their boat either except for a shorty or two. Got into huge northern pike later in the day stacked up by the creek inlets. We had six of them in less than an hour. Biggest two were 36 and 40″. Took a 29″er home to eat. They taste like walleye!
