Yep, you guessed it…Southern Rock! Actually more like Rock river Janesville to Beloit! Waters high, lots of garbage floating down river, waters really dirty, but…..the smallmouth are biting and so are the warps! Whats a warp? A walleyed carp of course! For some reason, the warps love the paddletails as much as the smallmouth do!

I was wondering if the Rock system produced smallies. Anyone ever see them in the Jefferson to Koshkonong section of the river?

Those warps are everywhere. You should have seen them sucking up blue gill eggs on Monona. I think the average fish was 36-40″.

I thought about river fishing last weekend but after watchin the big boat races while driving over the 26 bridge I decided to turn around in favor of big gills on Lakes Ripley and Monona. No walleyes though, but at least my boat is still floating.

As often as I’ve fished the Rock from the Fort to Newville, i’ve never caught a LM or SM bass. Have heard that the shallow rocky areas nearer jefferson hold some, but haven’t tried that.

In downtown Fort I was fishing for cats about 5 years ago one day and something was chasing minnows near shore. I cast a jig over and low and behold, a nine inch smallie.
