Fishing is red hot right, lots of little males with couple keeper each time out. Vertical jigging with 3/8oz to 1/2 oz working right in the channel. Best color was pink. Jigs tipped with fatheads or shinner. I’ve been using stinger hooks. Lots of boat traffic and water current is strong with water high. Go getem anglers, should be out Sunday after 3.

    Water Temp 38 to 40

    Tried everything Saturday
best was half a crawler on a pink white or green chartruese nuckleball jig. Heading back this morning. Like everyone else the small males kept us from getting bored.

Small males are very active right now. Me and my daughter had a blast until she got cold. caught 1 keeper and missed a 4 pounder at the boat. Heading out with We Fish at 3:00 today.

also fished yesterday from 7 til noon. we had 2 keepers and about 50 small males. fishery should be excellent in the next couple years. same baits as everyone else except the 2 keepers were caught on 3″ kalins.

March madness is a great header, I’ve never seen so many boats on the river. Doesn’t anybody watch basketball or hockey anymore? I guess it’s bumper boats for a few weeks. Anyway, I got the boat out of storage Saturday and made the maiden trip Sunday afternoon too though it was a 1/2 hour wait to launch. Fished from 12:30 – 4. Buddy forgot the minnows so I tried something new, Berkley Gulp 3″ minnows in the smelt color and the results were positive! Within minutes I had the first small male walleye. Ended up with 9 fish, 2 keepers. All were 13-15″ long. I even threw a Gulp at a guy floating past and he had a keeper within 5 minutes. 3/8 oz. green/glow Zone-R outfished the other jigs 2 to 1. We worked the river up from the 26 launch between Patten’s and the creek inlet.

Still trying to decide if I want to join in the battle of the boats. These reports make me want to get out since the rig is ready (at least until the plugs foul since I am decarboning the engine on this gas tank). We need the fox and the wolf rivers to start so the Rock will empty out of boaters.

Maybe I will get out early morning this weekend. Especially since wifey reminded me that we have no walleye in the freezer

Well done guys! Thanks for the reports

Got out again Sunday.Boats galore!! Action alot slower than Saturday, only 20 dinks or so today. Half a crawler and pink/ white nuckle ball jig was hot again today. Green/ Chartruese following up in secong with half a crawler or tipped with a paddletail.
I imagine night fishing will produce here in the next few weeks. Especially with all the pressure during the day.

Took a ride to Fort Atkinson yesterday. River is locked up from 106 to the bark river along Rock River Road/Milwaukee Ave up to Main Street bridge. There are some open areas to fish west of the Main street bridge and along the wall adjacent to Hwy 106 all the way to the bend. Soon fella’s, very soon.

Keep the updates coming, Fellas. Can’t even think about getting out till some home-project work is done, but your reports get me motivated to hurry my a$$ up. Save some for me.

Hard Water thanks for bring the March madness report to the top. The river is open as far as I can see downtown with heavy ice flow. Some angles fishing from shore and a few brave boater braving the elements. How much a year can change.

I learned to love those floating ice chunks. Last year my first 2 fish of the year came by throwing a jig on top of an ice chunk, pulling it off, and letting it slowly fall right into the mouth of a ‘eye. If anyone is too bored to fish alone I’d be happy to tag along. I sold my truck and no longer have easy access to my dad’s tub. Instead I’ll be using my in-laws pontoon but the earliest it’ll be in the the water at Patten’s is Easter weekend. In the meantime, save me some elbow room on the shoreline. Anyone want to make any friendly bets on biggest fish or most fish in a day? I’d love to host the gang on the pontoon later in April if anyone is interested in sharing tips, tricks and fish stories. Happy angling to all!

My bet is Jeff on the biggest and Z-man for the most.

    Databoy,

You are always welcome in my rig. Since I usually fish alone.

Thanks for the offers guys, I certainly can’t refuse your hospitality. I private messaged my phone number and email address. I’m willing to buy bait, gas, or whatever you need. I know it’s not exactly cheap to enjoy a good day on the water. That’s why I don’t have my own boat. I just got discouraging news that the marina won’t be ready for my in-laws pontoon until the end of April.

Databoy I got your email and I filed your numbers. You think gas and bait is expensive don’t forget my boat riders buy lunch also.

Looking forward to fishing with you and all the other IDA anglers I can get in my boat this year. I have lots of make up to do from last year.

Nice rig rig you will be getting. I guess you can now hold 5 ten pounders now. And I am not talking beer!

Can’t go wrong with them Alumacrafts Jeff…Looks like a nice boat. what are you going to have for power? I can tell you that my 2000 Trophy 175 had a 90 hp Johnson on it, and got me going 38 to 40 mph gps, but rated for 150. I was fine with that, until I had a chance to use my Yarcraft with the 150, and what a difference? In retrospect, I’d go with at least a 115 or 125 on the 17 ft alumacraft. good luck with your shopping.

My 185 Trophy is rated for 175 hp and I’m going with a 175 hp e-tech and a matching 9.9 Johnson for the kicker, 4 stroke of course. Minn kota 101 with 62 inch shaft and built in universal sonar in the bow and the 520 lowrance in dash and bow. And the bow locater can be moved back by the kicker for when I’m trolling. Also going to have the Vinyl floor

Sweet! Those E-techs are quite the engine.Gonna be a little different launching that monster by yourself compared to the 17 ftr. you just sold. let me know when you’re soing your first solo launch….I’ll take a seat with a bag of popcorn, and watch…

I’ll bring the beads as it could be quite a show.

Congrats JP. Now don’t go screaming up and down the river too fast now. Us in bath tubes still need to make it home. But then again not much of the boat should be the water
