….and with the decent forecast for the next week or so (for soft water fishing, anyway), gonna get more and more tempting to join the loner. In the meantime, we can all hope to get out.

January 16, 2006 at 4:16 pm #412235Well, finally got the priorities straightened out and went fishing Sunday afternoon….was the maiden voyage of my winter boat…a 1974 12 ft. Lund, affectionately named the Minnow. Here’s a pic of a fellow that launched just ahead of us at the bypass bridge…no stopping this guy, Pick-up truck out of commission, no problem…use a semi. there were about 6 other trailers in the lot. anyway, glad to report that the Minnow didnt leak, and that the 6 hp kicker did a fine job motoring us up to the VFW hole, only to find out that we left the minnows in the truck , so back we went, as my fishing buddy hasnt been weened over to plastic yet. Started fishing at VFW hole bout 1 pm, two drifts, no bites, and down to the stinkpipe we went. Several drifts there brought 3 undersize eyes to the boat, couple missed hits, and about 6 white bass. Wanted to try one more hole before we called it quits, so motored down towards bridge, and called it a day after couple drifts in last hole. My two eyes liked the orange catalpa paddletail, and my buddy got one on jig/minnow. While the fish were not cooperating fully, it was like heaven drifting down in area shielded from the wind, warmed by the sun, and feeling those long-awaited thumps at the end of the line. would have been a perfect days, if only the Bears had won. Oh well, better days to come.
January 16, 2006 at 5:48 pm #412253I am so jealous .
Way to go Ed.
I may get out for some shore casting this weekend or head back to that big pond depending on reports.

January 18, 2006 at 12:19 am #412687glad to see the rivers open. fished pool 4 for the first time last thur. and fri. and did quite well. i just wanted to thank dean for some helpful tips and pointing out some spots. i will definately be back soon. the spot down river gave up a nice 25 inch eye but only got it on the camcorder, not the digital. thanks again dean and see ya soon!!
January 20, 2006 at 10:04 pm #413467glad you got hooked on Pool 4, Mike. My first time out there was 4 years ago, and try to get back about 2 to 3 times a year. March can be very, very good for numbers and occasional size, if you’re flexible, and can catch some decent weather…ie: above 30 and dry.
January 22, 2006 at 9:10 pm #413692I love that launch pic Z-man! Is that what you call thinking outside the “box” truck.
Sorry, could not resist a very poor pun! I’d hire that guy. Git the job done, no matter what it takes!
JohnJanuary 23, 2006 at 12:36 am #413733Yup, gotta give credit where credit’s due. he even brought man’s best friend with him, a lab, and they sure did pick the right day. when you gotta go, you gotta go, i guess.
