I finally make it up to the Rock Sat am. for some late fall walleye fishing and can’t get on the river it’s all iced up from Ft. Akkinson all the way into the lake. I’ll still need a hour or two Sunday to finish getting the salt off the boat. I try it again in the Spring. Thanks for the launch info.

Was there as well. High point of the day was a seeing a mature eagle sitting on the ice on Fort.
November 27, 2005 at 3:17 am #399296Bummer guys…..was planning on fishing today, too, but saw Jeffs post from last nite. Hopefully we wont have to wait till spring, though, to try again.
November 29, 2005 at 12:53 pm #399729No.
It is no wake through Fort Atkinson year round (i believe but most don’t follow it after the bouys are pulled in the fall. Sometimes in the spring when the water is high they will make the entire river no wake to keep erosion down.
And yes the sheriff does patrol in open water during peak use times.
My two cents.
Bola is this correct since you live on the river?
November 29, 2005 at 3:41 pm #399773Downtown Fort no wake and when bouys are out from bark river to K-mart.
D-Man did I see you go by the downtown launch around 10:00 AM Saturday. You have a cover on your lund? I was sitting in the parking lot with my son eating in the truck.
November 29, 2005 at 10:53 pm #399855No we saw him to at the Blackhawk Club drive by. I was the idiot who did not put the cover on and drove around checking launchs and got my insides of the boat covered with salt spray and grime. I have a black and silver/pewter 1775 w/150 Evinrude, by time we got back home I was just gray colored all over. What a mistake just to leave the house in a hurry to go with snow on the ground.
November 30, 2005 at 1:00 pm #399958Don’t feel bad. You were not the only one without a cover on your boat. I hope I don’t have electical problems next year.
Regarding snow on the ground and fishing. Those have been some of the best fishing on the rock for me. I love launching the boat with 4 inches on snow on the ramp. Thanks goodness for 4 wheel drive and snow shovels.
November 30, 2005 at 4:20 pm #400014all this talk about winter scenes….is it spring yet??? Still have the three dozen nice, juicy fatheads on the aerator in the garage, that were supposed to be eaten by Rock eyes last Saturday, too. Hoping to get that 12 ftr. out for a maiden spin, if this weather would start cooperating.
November 30, 2005 at 8:38 pm #400120Ditto on the fatheads I also have 3 dozen on hold in the garage. Looks like I’ll try to keep them for first ice.
December 1, 2005 at 2:41 am #400257It’s not too late guys. I was out today and the fish are biting. Vertical jigging ( jig and minnows )in the deeper holes between Fort and the bypass bridge.
The fish are hanging tight in small groups so you have to keep moving. Pick off 2 or 3 fish then search for the next group.
A small heater and a thermos of coffee are a big plus !
The bypass launch totaly sucks due to low water and the pier being pulled out. So be careful if you launch down there.December 1, 2005 at 1:18 pm #400311Well I think it is too late for me. The wifey is filling up my weekends with other plans
Never should have put the boat away. Keep it in the garage so I always have an excuse not to do something because “I’m thinkin about goin fishin”
Maybe I will try that next year.
Oh well bring on the ice!!!
December 1, 2005 at 3:30 pm #400358Thanks for the report, Gman….I havent given up for the year, just got a few things getting in the way of time-off until the week of the 18th….fat chance, but hoping to launch a boat somewhere that week. I’m sure the nice, fat minnows I’m aerating would agree.
Diesel…try telling your wife that it would be cruel to just throw them fatheads away, and that you really should try feeding the walleye.
