Rock River

Going to the Rock this Sat. for the first time by Ft. Atkinson. Any info on where to launch and a local bait shop would be helpful from any of you Rock River anglers. Even a phone number of a local bait for some river info would be great. Forgot to add we will be looking for walleyes at either Jefferson or the Fort.

Last info I had for bait shops, Only one in Fort was the Hardware Hank, and they closed, I believe. I would use H20 precision jigs with paddle tails. Chartreuce pepper, oyster shell and catalpa orange were good colors last year this time. I would launch across from K-Mart and go below the 106 bridge to drift down for a couple hundred yards. Or launch under the Hy 26 bypass, motor up to the hole just around the corner and again drift. Plastics are tough to beat this time of the year. Good luck, post the results. Please

Diesel, happy birthday you old coot! What not fishing today? I always take my birthday off and make sure I’m on the water. Of course, that’s mid-summer and not when the snow is blowing.

I wish I could take the day off. Nothing like rock river fishing in the snow. I remember one the best fishing days I had on the rock I had two inches on snow in the boat, everything I owned on me and not a person on the river.

Darn Day care is closed christmas week and gotta use up the last of my vacation on taking care my FFB (future fishing buddy).

And a happy b-day to you Diesel. You know, the Rock may still be open Christmas week, so just buy the little guy his first set of coveralls, and take him with.

D-man…not sure what size boat you’re launching, but take a look at Diesels write-up of the Kmart launch, on other Rock thread. Didnt sound so good. there’s a real nice launch at the Riverfront Bar on Blackhawk Island for the stretch at Kosh mouth (cost 4 bucks), and the city launch right in Fort Atkinson for the Bark/106 stretch. Good luck.

You can also get bait at the Shell Station on the south end of Fort on Whitewater Ave and just before the Shell station turn right and on your left the Rock River Rental has bait also. Best launches this time of year are downtown Fort next to water Dept. and RiverFront. Also can get bait at Patten Marine on you way to Blackhawk Island you will see the Marine on your left west of Fort just before you turn left to go to Blackhawk Island. Water is low so be careful, if you launch at Downtown Fort watch the rock straight off the launch.

Thanks for the heads up, I will launch a 17ft Pro V so hopefully I should not have much trouble in and out. I just worry at why they call it the ROCK.

Hey, D-man and Diesel, make sure you guys keep that wake down…..gonna do the maiden voyage with my new winter boat…a 1974 12ft. Lund…first time out with it, so not sure if she’ll sink or float. Launching at the by-pass, just to keep my running time down to a minimum ,with a mighty 6 hp kicker powering the tub.This promises to be an experience… Maybe see you guys out there .

River was iced up from downtown Fort all the way to 106 bridge that I saw. I’m sure it’s iced up at Blackhawk.. Should be open again by Sunday for a few days. I’m putting the boat away Monday.

Usually launch at Blackhawk but maybe not if it is iced up. may be at the bypass. Sick Kid may keep me off the water til Sunday though. Wish me luck getting out.
