Fished today from 3pm – 7pm, trolled main lake, rock bar and a few secret fall spots I have. Could only entice one walleye (15 inches) to bite. Water temps at 58.8, still just a bit warm for my liking, so I’ll wait a week or so to head out again. I saw a flock of 7 terns sitting on the lake today, have never seen that before. Must be an indication of a good fish source? Water depths are still decent, hope it can clean up a bit though! Anyone else having any luck?

I’ve heard two different stories, some are getting lots of small fish with one big fish, also most just a few small eyes. Me the last two weeks have been bad, but I knew this because of the unstabe weather. It should pick up by the end of Oct. Got to fill freezer with vension. But when the ringworm bite starts it’s only fishing.

If you angler have never caught walleye on ringworm in the fall, you don’t know what your missing. Go to the B-fish-N website to get your ringies. Once you feel the hit of a walleye on a ringworm you will be hooked or life.

OK, so I lied! I snuck out this morning for a few quick hours. This lake drives me absolutely nuts at times. I get a little tired of trolling and I also get tired of jigging the river sooooo……I did something crazy this morning! I anchored and used a 3 way with minnows. Basically just let em soak! I think part of it was that I only anchored front so the back drifted with the wind. I caught and released 7 eyes ranging from 7 inches to 18 inches and 6 small northerns. Also a first for me was a 12 inch largemouth. Off the water now here until Tuesday or later. Delevan and Kegonsa are still calling my name.

Got out to Blackhawk this afternoon, from 11 am till about 5pm. Started out quick, with three legals, and a few small ones in first hour and a half…..and then they stopped. Hit the usual holes upstream afterwards, but all fish caught down from Riverfront launch. Misssed a couple more legals at the net, and boated a few small ones, but far and few between . Two of the legals pounded a paddletail, and missed a couple other hits on it, so lookds like the plastics are starting to heat up. Other fish came on jig minnow and jig crawler combos, mostly in 6 fow. Very light winds made a controlled downstream drift very do-able.

Got out today with my father in law. We braved the rain all the way out to Blackhawk Island after getting bait from the former Barn. I hate going there. I asked for large and Jumbo minnows and he gave me jumbo and crappie minnows . I guess I should have watched him instead of getting my guest a license.

Oh well caught about eight walleye with two legals 15 and 17. Fish were in the hole downstream from the launch at the bar. Marked lots of schools with bigger marks below. This was where we caught the fish and had the most bites. Caught fish mainly on minnows and one legal on jig and crawler. Fished from 1100 to 230. Kinda cold but able to put my guest on fish. Saw one guy with a limit. Some small fish caught but a lot of legal caught even with the weather change. Not aggressive but a biting frenzy from about 130 to 200 then they just vanished? Nope they went shallow in 4 to 6 feet but we had to leave. Fishermen basically in groups no one away from the groups getting many fish. Seems like the fish were clusters.

Overall a good day but wished I could have stayed longer. Not a lot of fish but decent quality.

Water temp 54 degrees, cloudy, slight drizzle, and slight wind. Feels like fall walleye weather .

    See ya next week

Couldn’t resist the call of the Rock, and hit the river yesterday with a buddy, at noon. Didnt take long to find some fish, though most were sub-legal. Went right over to the wood , and had three within 15 minutes, with one legal. Decided to hit other wood up-river, and picked up a fish or two, about everywhere we tried. Most fish were in 6 fow, with one nice one in 8.They were just slamming the paddletail. Boated about 2 dozen on this day, with all but two or three on bare orange catalpa tail. Here’s a pic of a nice, fat 22 incher picked up up-river. Those of you who know this river, can probably figure out where, based on background. This fish, and the other legal we got, are both still swimming. So if you’re into playing with plastic, the bite seems to be on. There were only two other boats out yesterday. The highlight of the day was the great sunset shot at the mouth…but the camera went dead, and no batteries on board…gonna be storing that one in the memory banks for the winter. Gonna look for some reports on here , but this guy’s going to Red Wing for three nites on sunday, so staying close to home (ie:no fishing) till then. good luck with the fall bite.

Diesel….I was using paddletails, not ringies. My buddy was trying all kinds of other plastics after switching one rod over from live bait. call it coincidence, luck, skill or whatever , but he got no fish until he cried uncle and asked me for a paddletail. then he picked up a couple, but that was at day’s end. I’ve seen this happen before. In the meantime, I was getting slammed on fairly regular basis…besides the fish boated, must have lost at least another dozen, albeit a few were on jig/minnow combo. This bait has been my fall-time favorite for vertical jigging, while I use the ringworms for pitching…whether it be the rock, wisconsin, or Mississippi rivers…this color has produced. If we can hook up before you go out, I’ll lay a few on you. Just call.

Thanks Z for the report, hope to fit in some fishing this weekend. But filling the freezer with venison got to be first.

Z what made you to try the wood? Did someone tell you the fish were there?

Hey Jeff….so you are still around. Good to hear from you. Yup, catching those fish with you in 3 fow couple years back made a beleiver out of me. didnt quite make it in that close this time, cuz I had novices with me, and we were getting fish out in more open water, but they were close to the wood(and I’m guessing, probably in it). Hurry up and get that Bambi, would you! The eyes are beckoning. And don’t forget the catalpa orange paddletails.Good luck.

You know now that I’ve been thinking about it I was out Friday from 11:00 until 2:00. I remember because I called my buddy EZ to find where the fish were. I did end up with a couple keepers and 5 or 6 shorts.
